EGT Gauge costs?
Hey lads. Im getting a DTS turbo kit fitted to my TD42 and was quoted $413 plus GST for a EGT. Is this a pretty average cost?

Are you after an analogue or digital?
Auberinstruments do pretty cheap digital and probe deals, bout $120 landed.
Get the long probe.

Doesn't really matter between digital, or analogue. Some of the digital versions have the ability to set warning levels for warning lights or buzzers when over-temp.
I got autometer EGT and Boost gauge with all sensors landed from egauges.com for around $320. This will depend on how strong the US$ us as to how well it goes for you.

X2 You will find them on ebay US and are easy to fit. Around $120 landed. They are a really great unit.

I run one of these has a memory for upper and lower ends of the temp scale and its in degrees celcisus paid $300 from MTQ...... yeah they probably saw me coming but........ its cheap insurance against a stuffed engine.

I'm another fan of the Auber Instruments gauges. I got the pyro ages ago with 2 metre probe. Had no issues and love the settable warning range and the possibility to have a relay trigger if required etc.
Great mob to deal with and have a heap of gauge options. The same base unit can be recalibrated to read almost anything but they also sell them already set up (can't read multiple items at same time though). I just bought another off them for water temp with their temp sender but you can program them to work off almost any sensor if you know the voltage range and scale of the sender. I ordered a water gauge, long water sender and long (4 metre) pyro sender to relace the one I have to mount the gauge somewhere else. They sent me the 2 metre pyro by mistake. One email and they told me to post the sender back ?(slow mail fine) and they would post me the correct one straight away and refund my postage. All this they did the day afer I sent my email confirming that I had sent the wrong one back. New one turned up in about a week so can't complain about service. Also refunded my AUD postage cost to me in USD so I actually made a few coins out of it.
They can do water, oil temp, air temp, exhaust temp, boost, oil pressure etc etc. Like any of them the water gauge can be used to trigger thermo fans or the air temp could trigger intercooler fans etc etc.
There was a turbo or diesel shop online selling them under their name for like 3 times the price you can get them direct.

Autometer Phantom Analogue EGT with sender from the states landed for $240AUD and that's with the dollar down at .82! Closest I could find a local supplier could get was $310... no brainer!

Without wanting to start an arguement is there any benefit with analogue gauges over digital ? Personally I prefer a digital gauge for the single degree increments.............. You won't find an arguement here! I spoke to a bunch of my friends who ran both analogues and digitals, they all had pro's and con's to put forward for either setup but in the end I couldn't split them so I went with the analogue for asthetics while still providing an accurate feedback!

General consensus I have read on various forums is 500/550 degrees or 700 pre turbo. Maybe even a bit less in an aftermarket turbo set up. There's a difference is short burst temps and sustained temps too. These being generally sustained temps. Was talking bout the pro sport gauge being farenheit.
Seen a mates egt's getting to just under 700'c pulling a caravan up a hill and he was told by the bloke who tuned it that 700' was max he wanted and not to run at over 600 for long periods. Its in a 1HZ and to tell you the truth i reckon its gonna have a short life.

The pic I posted above is of an EGT in CELCIUS....
I've been led to believe that 550C is the max in the dump pipe and that's where I've set the alarm....
I've pushed it hard towing a car on trailer and only managed to get 530C.

Analogue is way easier to monitor when moving. A swinging needle can be easily tracked at a glance, rapidly changing digits on and LCD display not really.

To a degree peek temperatures are not an issue, it is sustained high temps that will start damaging and melting things.
I am with Kiwi in that the analogue gauge is easier to follow, and the accuracy of a digital isn't needed for this application.
But ultimately it doesn't matter. Just go with what you would prefer to see on the dash.

I really like the idea of the clock to match your guages, might have to get a EGT, oil pressure, water temp and clock for my car. The only problem is going to be finding a universial or rodeo pillar pod that that fits 4 guages...
