Re: engineered!
I'm in QLD but maybe you could elaborate There could be a great deal of people here interested in how you got your truck engineered and who engineered it .............
Re: engineered!
honestly i may pass for being mildly retarded as my brain seldom works. but i thought that the laws in the sunny state were a little more strict. i have 4 inch coils, adjustable ranchos, caster correction plates gearbox spacer and have turned around the rear drive shaft for added clearance too. did need to make up some custom flares though.
Re: engineered!
care to elaberate on which engineer you used?

Re: engineered!
woops no ofence taken i was only kidding eh, just making fun of myself ... but i really am limited in knowledge mate. let me contact the enginneer to see if i can post his details.
Re: engineered!
but with due respect... he lives in nsw and doubt he would travel to qld.even if you travelled here would the report be accepted buy your motor registry?
Re: engineered!
How long did it take from the time you saw the engineer till the cert was issued?
Re: engineered!
came to see me on fri 2 weeks ago, i recieved the 2 copies of the certificate (both signed) on the following wed. Then he confirmed he sent one to the rta aswell.
Re: engineered!
did you have to have the front swaybar fitted & did you get the speedo checked?
save our freedom shoot a green
Re: engineered!
No sway bars at all and gps confirmed the patrol is more accurate with speedo on 35's than the original rubber..(not sure why)
Re: engineered!
sounds good. if you could post up or pm me the engineer you used that would be good once you get his permission. the fellow that i was going to use wants all the swaybars connected mud flaps front & rear & i have to take it to get the speedo checked & supply him with a certificate once its done & corrected. he was ok with the 6" lift & 35's as long as the top of the head light didnt measure any more than 1200 off the ground.

The 1200mm rule is to the centre of the headlight!!outlawgq wrote:sounds good. if you could post up or pm me the engineer you used that would be good once you get his permission. the fellow that i was going to use wants all the swaybars connected mud flaps front & rear & i have to take it to get the speedo checked & supply him with a certificate once its done & corrected. he was ok with the 6" lift & 35's as long as the top of the head light didnt measure any more than 1200 off the ground.
The engineer and blueslip guy will want to see sway bars, mudflaps, speedo correct as its part of their job to check it off!!
The engineer I used checked the speedo himself.
I had no problems with both GU's on 35's and 4/5inch lifts
edit. the 1200mm rule only applies to car built after 1989 or so as 1 of the ADRs change around that date, previous to that was 1500mm to the centre of the headlight

Re: engineered .... NSW - GQ.
hi mate if you could please pass on engineers name and number through pm it would be great as i need mine done and im i nsw thanks
Re: engineered .... NSW - GQ.
Hi m8 if you could pm me the engineers number please would be great.
Re: engineered!
the few engineers I've spoken to have all said 1200 to the top of the light. & I just rang & confirmed this. I know the speedo has to be correct but just wanted to know if his engineer just used a gps or did he also want a certificate from a third party. sway bars i've been told back only then both have to be connected now he said he got his passed with non. same deal with mud flaps back only & then both back & front no higher than 300 of the ground. I'm just looking for the easiest eng to please as its clear the rules can be inturpeted in different ways to different engineers.turbo gu wrote:The 1200mm rule is to the centre of the headlight!!outlawgq wrote:sounds good. if you could post up or pm me the engineer you used that would be good once you get his permission. the fellow that i was going to use wants all the swaybars connected mud flaps front & rear & i have to take it to get the speedo checked & supply him with a certificate once its done & corrected. he was ok with the 6" lift & 35's as long as the top of the head light didnt measure any more than 1200 off the ground.

Re: engineered .... NSW - GQ.
Hi guys,
The engineer that three mates and myself have used in Sydney to get our Patrols engineered is AKZ Vehicle Engineering. His name is John Wilson and you can contact him on 0417230074, or on 02 62363009. He is in Queanbeyan ACT but travels to Sydney each week for inspections. He will come to you or you can agree to meet somewhere.
All of us run GU Patrols with 4" or 5" lift and 315x75x16 muddies. He is strict on headlight height (1200mm) and bull bar indicators working. Otherwise he is very easy to deal with and the whole process takes around two weeks to complete the paperwork.
Hope this can help someone,
rgds Keith..

Re: engineered .... NSW - GQ.
Just remember you need to get a blueslip afterwards who will recheck the certificate before you take it to the RTA.
They might pull you up on certain things if there not on there

Re: engineered .... NSW - GQ.
what was the cost to do this
Re: engineered .... NSW - GQ.
the report and blue slip i didn't get much change from a grand....the guy mentioned above is quite good too.
Re: engineered .... NSW - GQ.
getting passed with no sway bars doesnt seem right! they are original equipment and a MUST to be roadworthy.
price seems a bit steep too, I paid half that.

Re: engineered .... NSW - GQ.
You guys in NSW got it too easy. I'm in QLD. 3'' lift on 33's on my GU and if I get a copper on a bad day, its to big.
Do you have to go over the pits every 12 months still down there and if so does that mean getting it engineered every time??

Is your 3" one third of the bumpstop measurement ? mine isDanwinGQ wrote:You guys in NSW got it too easy. I'm in QLD. 3'' lift on 33's on my GU and if I get a copper on a bad day, its to big.

Re: engineered .... NSW - GQ.
dunno mate. I haven't actually worked out any measurements. I'm not sure how that rule works. Does that mean if you change your bump stops to say 100 series that are a bit longer you could get away with going a bit bigger??

Re: engineered .... NSW - GQ.
Not that I know of. AFAIK it all has to be OE before the lift, I've been over the pits with 3" springs, adjustable panhards etc. Adj panhards are illegal in Qld as is a set of 3" springs it all comes down to the cop or DOT inspector.DanwinGQ wrote:dunno mate. Re: engineered .... NSW - GQ.
I am currently in the process of getting my GU engineered (5" lift, 35s).
Things I've had to do were: Swaybars (front and rear), mudflaps to at least centre of the wheel (front and rear), speedo check certificate/correction.
Plus additional things as I have done a dual cab shop (child restraint points in back, additional body mounts, back wall bracing, adr tail lights + reflectors)
This engineer is strict, but that is good as it will guarantee that my car will also pass the blueslip easy. If the egnineer is too slack you will have to do additional work anyway.
