Regulator on Mechanical Pump

G'day,
I've heard that it isn't the best idea to run a holley style regulator on a mechanical fuel pump but is this the same with the 1.3 sierra pump as it has a built in return line? Or is there a way to set it up to keep the mechanical pump or do I have to go electric? I need to run about 3psi to keep the mikuni bike carbs happy :armsup:
