As the topic states I was in the wreckers today and realised that there appears to two different types of lower controls arms on the rear diff of an 80 series.
The difference appears to be only related to the diameter of the arms although there may other differences not readily recognisable such as length and mounts.
It looked like that somewhere around 1995 Toyota made a move to a smaller diameter lower rear control arm.
My questions are:
Is there any difference in the arms apart from diameter of the pipe used?
Is one stronger than the other?
Thanks,
Stinger

Their is 2 different sizes as far as we are aware, i am not sure the exact year they changed but the heavier of the 2 is definately stronger item.
The 100's have the heavier wall than the 80's as well, same length and bush's as each other .

Thanks
So which one heavier? It sounds like the later model with the smaller diameter has a thicker wall.

I am led to believe they also changed coil height at the same time, is this true?SuperiorEngineering wrote:Their is 2 different sizes as far as we are aware, i am not sure the exact year they changed but the heavier of the 2 is definately stronger item.

The newer the vehicle the stronger the arms are eg 80-100, i guess the manufacturers worked out their is weak points in their std suspension.
