DIY Storage drawers carpet advice

Post by Evski »

Hey guys, started knocking up some drawers for the back of my Lux today and just after some suggestions. Just wondering where in Sydney to buy carpet from to cover it all up? Is there a special type to grab in particular, or will anything from Bunnings etc to the trick? Also I would love to see some DIY fridge slides so I can 'borrow' a few ideas. The slide will be sitting on top of the draw if that makes any difference.
Cheers

I have used the marine carpet with the rubber backing from Bunnings. And i used the heavy duty runners for my drawers but am about to rebuild them to incorporate a fridge slide and will be using plastic chopping board material as the draw runners instead of paying 60 bucks a pair (about 18mm thick and they are very hard and will slide very well). Let us know how ya go

Good stuf mate, thanks for that. Well today I finished welding up the frame, bought some heavy duty runners, and the rest of the wood. I'll pop into Bunnings and grab some marine carpet tomorrow, probably a good call on the marine carpet as the canopy leaks a little...
Cant believe how long it has taken, but at the end of the day it should cost less than $500 for the whole deal.

I would use an unbacked carpet or boot liner, it will make life a heap easier and if glued using a spray contact adhesive will last a long time and look neater. It is made of the same material as marine carpet which generally has a heavier backing and a slightly higher UV rating both of which are not needed in this application. You should find this at Bunnings or Clark Rubber, even better would be to go to a Motor Trimmer or Motor Trimmer supplier and buy some direct $20~$30 per m, 2m wide. You can identify it by being very strechy, and don't be shy with the glue.

Great tips, thanks for the advice. Will spend some time tomorrow looking into some local trimmers.
