guys, I've got a shuddering problem in my 99 hilux xcab.
1. Shudders on take off 1,000rpm to around 2,000. Largly noticible on a steap hill start, clutch is fully released. (doesnt really happing in L4)
2. Shudders around 80-90 kph
I've done the following;
1. Replaced UNI joints on tail shaft.
2. Replaced Tailshaft center bearing.
3. Spaced tailshaft center bearing down 20mm.
4. Got the tailshaft balanced.
5. Placed 3degree caster wedges.
6. Wheel alignment and tyre balance, rotation also.
Any other idea's?
Car has about a 2 inch lift, with 32 Maxxis M/T Bravo tyres. Torsion bars tentioned for the front lift bit
cheers

Re: Shuddering on take off and cruising speed Hilux 99.
Years ago mine 95 lux did the same. Ended up being the input bearing ( first large bearing) in the 5 speed was slightly lose in the alloy housing. Got another front housing section for the 5 speed and fitted a new bearing at the same time. Could be a long shot. It took swapping the transfer then 5 speed to find the problem after recoing the rear diff and getting the rear tail shaft balanced.

Remove the rear tailshaft and lock in the hubs to drive it. If the vibration goes, it must be in the rear.
If not look into the gearbox etc.
Also check rear pinion nut for tightness.

You could try spacing your centre bearing down to decrease the angle on the rear tailshaft?

Re: Shuddering on take off and cruising speed Hilux 99.
hey guys, well I've had some luck!
vibration around 80-90 or so is gone! about bloody time!!!
Cause: Front free wheeling hubs where f#cked and the front end was spinning front IFS diff and front tailshaft! springs in the hubs where all twisted. Got replacement parts and vibration gone, I cant beleive it was something so simple..
I still have the shuddering on takeoff and in 4L without the hubs engaged going up a steep hill, but I think I have found the problem, I got a mate to drive the car and I opened the door and hung my head under the car, the Center Tailshaft bearing has massive wobble in it, it almost looks like my tailshaft is bent it is that bad, going to purchase a different heavy duty aftermarket one now and see if that makes a differerce, will let you guys now!

Re: Shuddering on take off and cruising speed Hilux 99.
more on this, my center tailshaft bearing has blown apart which looks like the cause of the shuddering. Its getting replaced with a heavy tudy aftermarket.
Re: Shuddering on take off and cruising speed Hilux 99.
update and solved,
Put in a heavy duty center tailshaft bearing, destroyed that in 500k's or so.
Got a single peice tailshaft made up, shuddering all gone.
All problems fixed for now.
cheers for all the help!
