Random Engine Turn-off
Random Engine Turn-off
Hello all. I have been having another issue with my 1991 Suzuki Sierra... The problem is that my engine randomly turns off for no reason at all!!! I would have put it under the engine problems section but it isnt the engine... As in it doesn't like falter then shut off... The engine just randomly turns off pretty much instantly... I will be just driving along the road with full engine power and no issues then suddenly the engine is completely dead and turned off... Does anybody know what the issue may be?? I am thinking maybe an electrical problem? If so then where should I start with this issue??? Thankyou.
I have a 1991 model Sierra, it has been crashed, thrashed, bashed and rolled, but she will still get me up any damn hill I point her at! And that's why I call her Suzy.
Re: Random Engine Turn-off
Sierras are very very simple as long as some one hasn't messed with the wiring.
I would start by looking at your coil and dizzy. Check all the wires going to it. Check the connections. Check your grounds. Then if all that checks out I would be looking at your ignition switch.
If I was a betting man I would say its something to do with the coil or dizzy though.

Umm sorry I am not up to speed with the Jargon yet... What is the Coil and the Dizzy??

Ummm hmm I will bite my tounge as I often don't and get into trouble.
The Coil is what provides the spark to your distributer. Dizzy Is a nic name given to your distributer. Sorry about the spelling.
The dizzy is what your spark plug leads go to on the back side of your engine. On the dizzy the middle wire (the one that does not go to a spark plugs) goes to your coil. It will be mounted on your fire wall. The coil has a ground wire going to it then a power/live wire.
You need to check all the wires going to the coil and the dizzy. The small wires not the spark plug wires.
Honestly if you have no idea what I am saying you really should get a mate to help you or a mechanic or this random stopping problem could turn into a not starting problem really quick.

Re: Random Engine Turn-off
first place to check is the idle solenoid on the carby. if it looses power it stops working.

Re: Random Engine Turn-off
Ohk thanks all... I opened my bonnet and straight away found out that all of the spark plug cables were loose or close to falling out. I must have bumped them when I was putting in my new reverse light switch. Thanks heaps!!!
