Changing wheels & Wheel nuts.

Post by Spartacus »

I went out to put my play tyres from my gq onto the landcruiser and i have
overlooked the wheel nuts.

The nutz are for the 80 series anniversary alloys so they have a small bevel and washer.

Stupid question: Will they still hold steel wheels tight?

They should do if they have a small taper at the base. This will fit into the taper of the steel rim.

How didn't you notice after the first one.. :?

Also, this is why you NEVER use a rattle gun on wheel nuts.

Warning Warning!!

back to the original question  Id be wary of using them if they arent correct.
I lost a front left wheel on my 80series at around 80km/hr  exciting stuff. I copuldnt really come up with an explanation, it happened with NO warning. I changed all the wheel nuts as I was suspicious of the taper being mis matched to the rims

ok reread first post :D
now to clear a few things up such as didnt realise after the first nut
they were speedway centreline mags the nuts have a 25mm long shaft which is a tight fit in the hole of the mag so even with the correct nuts its near impossible to do up by fingers.
also if fitted the wheels after arvo shift outside the workshop 330am dark and cold so i was rushing
as for my $630 bill that was fitted as i needed the car the next day
cheers for the constructive criticisim :finger:
