Need more info?!?! Has it got a part time kit fitted? With a viscous differencial? Or is it just a standard gxl fulltime 4x4?

mate, the noise is a RELAY only. the 80's only lock drive from the transfer case to both diffs to make 50/50 power to front and rear..( should be called transfer lock)..no diff locks as standard only after market.hope this helps.

On the centre diff motor plug there should be three wires. two are 12v signals to lock/unlock. Check that power is getting to one when the switch is unlocked, and the other when the switch is locked. The third is an earth. Check the earth is working too (often overlooked)

If that's working there is something wrong with the motor. You can test the motor by using a 9v battery. Don't use a 12v source as it can damage the motor.

Thanks for the replys,

I am the mate witht he problem.

Now its a full time 4x4 with part time conversion. I am not to technical minded so thats all i know.when I lock the hubs in I still dont get 4x4, and when going into low range the light does not come up on the dash like it use to. So when the hubs are locked in ( 3 months since fitting new ones ) I am still stuck in 2WD. Now I guess the relay is working cos it is clicking?? and I understand that all it is is a relay, but if I have the hubs manually locked in, should i not have 70//30 ratio?

Sorry for my idiocy, but I would like to try n fix it myself as it has already cost me to much.

it is reasonably common for the statick motor that shifts the center difflock fails and is fairly easy to change.
it has happened to me and a few of my mates cars.
