G'day guy's
Just recently bought a 85 Drover, and have plans to turn it into a tuff truck/ rock hopper.
already have plans to give her a 2 inch suspesion lift + 2 in body lift but did'nt know where to start with the motor so i thought i'd throw it out there and try and get some idea's. The exhaust will be 2 inch all thru with high flow cat very soon too.
idealy i would prefer to keep the motor light but yet still capable of producing high torque and good power...
and was also curious if there is a way of getting more from the little 1.3 in it while i decide, carbi and/or stage 2 cam i was thinking.
one more question is the Drover completly compatiable with the sierra or are their some changes other than cosmetic??
p.s all mechanical and fab will be done by myself.

Sounds good.
The most common motor conversion is the 1.6 efi. As the carbs dont live very long offroad..Also depends how you treat them i guess. Cam mods seem to make the motors better also, from what i've heard.
The Drover is practically a 1.3 Narrow Track Sierra.
The square headlights is Drover only.
And there will be some minor changes, but parts will still be all compatible.

sounds like your going to have a project on your hands. you should start a build thread.
Have a look in the Suzuki Bible you will find all the different engine conversion. Every thing has been done. C18, 4age, 4agz, rotors, GTIs,Balinos, Vitara tey will all work it just comes down to what you want and how much work you want to put iinto it.
GTI is by far the easist but not the best.
Balino is one of the harder ones but worth the extra work.
The mpst common and one of the best is the vitara.
The others are good but take a lot more fab work.

The motors and gearboxs etc are all interchangable between the 1.3 sierras and the drover as I've swapped them over in mine. Stage 2 cam and quad carbies liven the 1.3's right up! Great throttle response and upgrade in torque I reckon it'd be comparable with a stock 1.6 and is a fairly cheap mod if you do it yourself mine would have been under $400 for the cam and the carbs. Is it going to be a licensed rig? If not I wouldn't bother with the cat as they are expensive and only put a nice stop to the flow of air.

nope..........that award would go to the 1.6 8 valve carby motor.

Where do you get, and what make are a Stage 2 cam and quad carbys for under $400, sounds excellent.

in saying so would i be better of putting sierra WT on it or should i look towards something stronger like the hilux??
however i'd rather keep the weight down and i know the hilux axle's are pretty heavy...

The cam is made up off the shelf item made from billet steel not a reground stock cam. I got it from lowrangeoffroad.com and seeing as the dollar is pretty high it'd be a good time to look at them. And the carbs are off a gsx750. Very fast setup for a 1.3 could easily do more than the N.T. speed limit And being from a motorbike they won't flood on angles.

You'll have about 90mm extra width on your axles I believe. I have a couple of sets of w/t diffs but can't be bothered fitting them on to the drover because the narrow track makes it stay out of ruts easier. Strength wise I beleive they are the same but the drover has slightly better diff ratios (3.9 compared to 3.7) but they can be fitted to the w/t diffs to if you wanted.
