80 series rear bar with tyre carrier?!?

Post by TheBigBoy »

Gday guys, Has anyone here had a go at or made a rear bar with tyre carrier before? Any links or pics? Im thinking of making my own custom 1 for my needs.

I have found this 1 and really like it better than arb, kaymar and tjm's bars.... There pretty expensive aswell.

Looks like a long slow process considering I dont have a mandrel bender or guillotine. :) But I love a challenge

Thanks cranky. Its hard to find any bars that look standard. Everyone is going for the tube bars these days.

nice work gents, love some of the designs. Just wondering if anyone has shortened their chassis a bit and built the rear bar as a rear cross member into the chassis? Does removing this bit of chassis create worthwhile gains on departure angle?

I'm hoping to do something like the above but shorten chassis as well as incorporating the tow hitch into the rear bar (increasing departure angle even more).

My mate done it to his 80 and bar sits flush to rear door nearly. Would do to mine but i have a lpg tank in the way. There was also a thread on here a while back of someones build where he done this.

This is mine currently in the making. This photo illustrates the new rear cross member with integral tow bar and a through pipe to house the 3 inch exhaust after my ls2 goes in  The assembly will be bolted in using 6 existing captive nuts on the bottom and 8 hts m10 bolts (bushed) either side

It will be topped off with tube work either side and the standard issue wheel carrier mounted in the center.

Cheers D.
