94 lux ln106 2.8l probs with idle. **URGENT**
hey all,
i have had a bit of a look using the search function for problems regarding hilux idle issues. it might be the keywords that i am using.
as of yesterday the lux started to have idle issues.
when i back off the throttle when coming up to a set of lights it dies in the arse and is stalling. and if it doesnt stall the revs go up and down for about 2 minutes then it irons it self out and idles fine.
when driving it feels to be driving fine.
it was doin it last week and i took it to diesel care and the guy there found that one of the hose fittings on the fuel filter the factory glue had let go and was sucking air through that. after i fixed that it has run fine untill yesterday after i did the oil change.
any help to fix this problem would be great.
cheers
Zelly

Maybe the injector pump is slightly loose and the shaking engine is adjusting the injection timing as its running not enough to notice when reving but enough to stall or come close to stalling at idle. Just an idea...

big thanks for that. gives me somewhere to start looking.

how much oil did you fill it with.
Have you checked for air in the fuel from the filter/ pump assy to the engine fuel pump??
Have you changed the fuel filter?? altho they usually idle, but dont run if there blocked.
Sounds most likely like air.
has the idle stop on the fuel pump wound out by itself/ and the max fuel screw, have you adjusted that??

i have just been told off a mate thats a mech that it might be the governer?? havnt had a lot to do in that area of the engine. is that a possibility?
i bought some clear hose from the local diesel place today and have to put that on.
i also changed the fuel filter and f*#k me there was some shit in there. it looked like a new filter as well but because i have only owned the lux for about 3 weeks i decided when i got it i was goin to replace things along the lines as i go before i go modding it to much. things like wheel bearing and bushes and i also have to do the timing. all i seem to be doin is bleeding money at the moment.
i cant remember the weight i used. i got the one that was in the castrol book at super gay. i dont even have the bottle any more.
what weight is recommended for a 2.8l diesel with approx 299,500kms?
cheers zelly

thanks all, today i took it to the mechanic and after putting metho in the fuel tank last night and the diesel additive it was still playing up this morning. so on the way to work i dropped it to the mechanic and he said he would have a look at it if he got a chance. he did! the f*%kin thing ran like a dream for him. and funnily enough it hasn't missed a beat since i got it back from the mechanic who was kind enough not to charge me either for the time he did spend on it trying to get it to do what i said it was doing.
on the upside i have bought a spare diesel pump.

Injecotr pump solenoid, playin silly buggers, it causes the preignition type spluttering, odd that it would turn off when backing off, possibly low battery voltage/charging system or worn/loose connection on the solenoid.
Its the single wire connection ontop? or at the back of the pump (closer to the engine block) cant remember but yer worth a look.

by the sound of the filter, if it occurs again, use some compressed air to blow the return and main lines clear back to tank, Drain fuel tankuse the compressed air again to blow any rubbish around and out of tank, refill fuel using a paint striner in a funnel, you will be amazed what crap may have been in the tank.
