Useless tools

Post by V8Patrol »

I finally did it

many years ago I bought a pair of locktight pliers that came with different attatchments.... they cost me a heap back then and I might have used em a dozen times in the last 15 odd years.

They were a bloody usless tool as the attatchments kept slipping off when the pressure was applied or when the opening went past parralel in the jaws, so I finally turfed em !

Just wondering what tools you have in your shed that was a waste of $$$$ but at the time seamed like a bargin ???

i personly never turf a tool because it can always come in handy even if its just for the steel its made out of, however we have a few whitworth spaners at work that ii wouldnt mind turfing because you always try them and they never fit

the old supertool spanners and socket sets half there .. other half broken and thrown around - bought em i believe was 7 years ago.... i use them if i want to use something for leverage or using a hammer on a spanner which i prefer not to do with my good tools.

Prolly the worst thing i bought.. never used them and pretty much useless. my kid reckons they're his tools now :?

I thought this topic was going to be about bagging people, not actually about tools. ;)

My Bushranger folding shovel- first time I used it I discovered the locking collar was plastic. Put a bit of pressure on it to dig and the whole thing folds up from the collar letting go and jams.....

Luckily it was a gift and I didn't pay anything for it.

the most useless thing i've got is a high lift jack. bought the thing ages ago because everyone else seem to have one. never even looked like using it & when I did get stuck on a big rock with a drop off into a gully on one side i reckon i would have ended up in the gully if i'd used the high lift, used a trolley jack instead. can't even use it on the rear if I wanted to because the trays too big & not much chance of getting bogged anyway because its just about desert up here in the far north west. i am hoping that one day it'll be useful for something, perhaps as a clamp :?:

 thanks for the offer, but I still haven't given up thinking about what it might be useful for, i saw one on the front of a army landrover in Normanton on Tuesday that looked well used so maybe it'll come in handy one day, that's if I ever take it back out of the shed :!:

the open enders are good if you wanna round off the nuts.

the rachets are ratshit.

the sockets have alot of play in them because of their rounded grabby bits.

im glad it was my brother that bought them and not me.

I haven't found those Metrincks too bad, only got one big socket that i use when undoing the diff flange & transmission hand brake nuts, i crack them by putting a trolley jack under the bar, haven't had any nuts strip yet.

I bought on of those "multitool" for removing sump/filler plugs about 12 years ago from, the bargain bin at robbos. NEVER used it cause none of the "keys" fit any type of plug on the planet!

Even if it did fit, theyre bulky on the head and short. (no leverage) Cant insert a tube at one end cause its cluttered with more keys on the other end which are even more useless! :?

Im glad to say Ive managed to loose this so called "tool".

Bought a JBS hex bolt socket set (Allen key sockets).
Farken useless if you have to really tighten an Allen key bolt or grub screw, doesn't take much leverage to snap em. Gone back to using the standard Allen key wrenches haven't busted one of those yet.
One of the best tools I got was a Kingchrome balljoint remover (the srew up type not the fork type) works a treat every time.
I just luv my "clacker Jabber"

open end of the spanners are crap. they flex and open up too much.

i recon the sockets arent too bad, until you get into a tight space as there is too much play before they actually bite.

the rachets have too much play before the next 'click' too.

Have a mixed set of snap on, repco and kincrome. The tools that lay at the corner unused and hope to never use unless used if i do not want to break my good ones are the supertoolshit ones.

I'm a big fan of sidchrome.
We use snap on at work, but I'm not rich enough to own any. Their screwdrivers are fantastic!
The best tool I ever bought was a pivoting sidchrome ratchet (pivots directly over the drive).
Great for spark plug removal.

I have sidchrome combinations (ring/open ended). Never failed me in 20 years. The only problem, is that the smaller ones (1/2") are a bit too long.

i dont mind the REPCO brand as they have a life time garantee on all sockets/rachets... shifters... and spanners... ive busted a couple of sockets and rachets due to overloading them..... take em in an they ask no questions.....they say "awwe shit  how did ya do that?" then they laugh"yeah mate go and grab another one off the shelf".........GOTTA BE HAPPY WITH THAT
