hi, i had the same problem with my 40 when i did the same mods. i couldnt find another tailshaft to suit and anything custom made was going to cost the earth. i ended up having a new shaft made using some 65 and 50mm RHS that slid inside one another giving me over a foot of slip. works well and has survived a few comps and outings.
Cheers

Front shaft out of something else won't fit? I replaced my RJ70 rear shaft with a hzj105 front - had it laying around at work.

I had a sprung over, reverse shackled 40 that I made a front shaft for using an old front Hilux shaft spline which is about twice as long as a 40 series spline. Same tube diameter but you have to get the tube length just right or it will pop out. Otherwise you can buy a PTO spline and female coupling from any ag supply/tractor shop depending on how much slip you need.
