TD42 Starter

Post by thelux »

OK so I did a quiCk search but didn't find much.

The closest I found was this topic ( not sure how to copy the link )

TD42 starter issues - intermittent fault

My car has done exactly the same thing, the clutch inside the starter is slipping and when I bench test it I can hold the gear from spinning once it throws out.

I can't work out how to get the front housing of the starter apart It's unlike any other starter I have repaired before.

Does anyone know how or is there a diagram anywhere which shows how to pull it apart?

The motor itself is good and the solenoid is working fine.

I have a TB42 starter in a parts car.

Will this work in my TD42?

Also if someone has one for sale maybe? I am on the Central Coast in NSW.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Looked on Ebay earlier there is a few not bad 12 month replacement warranty and such. Only problem is right now I'm without a car and those starters are in Victoria so I'd have to wait for it.

Anyone local have one they may want to part with for some $$$?

Hey mate.

I rebuilt my starter motor completely..
You just put the motor part in a vice and on the front of the Reduction gearbox part there should be 3 screws. Just undo them and lever the cover out with a couple of little screwdrivers.

:S Jesus, I thought you would have broken the cover first.
Mine was a bit niggly, But got there pretty easy.
Do you come to Sydney at all? I can have a look at it if need be..
Or try sticking a pin punch into the top of one of the holes and tap it around with a hammer to free it up a little. In a clockwise motion. Then try leavering it out.

Ok, Well I'm glad you got it apart.
Sorry, I can't help with the clutch though mine was fine, Just needed new bearings and Brushes for the motor.
You could try sourcing a used one and doing a quick rebuild on it, or Use it for parts.
The bearings only cost me about $12 for the lot.
Good luck mate!!
