Swivel hubs

Post by daniel7000 »

I have just bought my first troopy. An 86. One of the front swivel hubs looks like it is leaking. Question: Are they greased or oil filled?

Thanks.

Should be grease filled but it's common to see gear oil leaking past the wiper seals on the balls when the inner axle seals are worn/damaged. If this is the case it's time to put a swivel hub kit through it and it's advisable to repack/replace wheel bearings while you're at it. You might like to use heavy duty axle seals from http://locktup4x4.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as they seem to outlast the seals supplied in most aftermarket swivel hub kits.
