hey guys
I need some urgent help with my lux.
i have a rebuilt 4Y in my hilux which currently has around 15kms on it.
recently i put a rebuild kit through the carby, bought all new electrics aswell,
my problem is it was idleing when first started then after about 30 mins of driving (5mins road,25 bush) it didnt want to idle and kept stalling when you took your foot off the accelerator.
I tried adjusting the idle screw with now luck.
Could the mixture screw have something to do with it?does anyone know how many turns out it should be?
i have checked vaccuum lines and will check the timing tomorrow afternoon.
i really need to sort this out before friday.
thanks

Re: idle problem!!HELP PLEASE!!
What color is the exhaust after warming up? (My guess would be black/sooty, ie running way too rich)
I'm thinking it is the automatic choke not connected or incorrectly adjusted. I don't know much about the Toyota carbies but there may be a wire to the carby that you have forgotten to hook up (auto choke heater) or perhaps swapped with the idle cutoff solenoid.
If you had it running when it is cold, don't adjust anything until you have eliminated the obvious. If it works, don't "fix it". As it stands you can drive it to someone that may be able to help, if you "twiddle" it will be an expensive tow to get help.
(Information is generic and may not be appropriate.)

Re: idle problem!!HELP PLEASE!!
I'd say when rebuilding it you've left a bit of old gasket in there (or bit of crud) and it's blocked up part of the idle circuitry.
Generally speaking, idle fuel/air mixture is 2 turns out. But to get it more accurate, with the engine idling at operating temp, wind it out until the revs stop increasing then wind it back in half a turn.
But fix the idle problem first, then make the adjustments.
