CT - 26 Turbo on a 2.5 litre

Hey what are your thoughts on a CT-26 on a 2.5 litre turbo diesel bravo, specs 42.9mm inducer 51.9mm exhaust wheel (the bit u can see) and a .48 rear A/R. will it be too laggy, i know its not a toyota but car will have 3 inch exhaust and already has bigger front mount IC. has anyone put one on say a hilux or surf 2.4 or 2.8 TD

Most people use the ct-20 on the 4 cylinder motors and the ct-26 on the 6 cylinder motors.
What do you want to use the car for?
As the ct20 with a small motor spools almost off idle for me, the ct-26 may not kick in until 1800rpm which wont be much help as you wouldnt want to rev the diesel over 3k'ish.
If I was turboing a motor again, I would look for a mitsubishi ball bearing turbo, they can run high boost and spool up quick.
So they do both jobs and are cheaper than having to buy a big turbo and getting it hi-flowed.

Probably to big, I have a CT26 on my 3.4L 4cly, with lots of additional fuel I get 10psi ~1800rpm and 16psi ~2400rpm

want the car for towing, and need the extra power for overtaking, the car revs to 4500 but doesn't seem to make much power over 3500', if it got 10 psi by 1800rpm i would be happy, when does boost start building on you 3.4, what size exhaust and is your ct-26 one off of a supra as they have a larger front wheel and bigger exhaust housing. the one i was looking at is off a 4.0 with the .48 A/R rear housing.

Mine is the factory CT26, boost starts from ~1000rpm

I have a ct 26 on my 2ltr 4 cylinder and it seems to make good power revs pretty clean to about 7500 rpm gets on boost around 2500 rpm :D :D :D

seriously have you considered the fact that your car is a
diesel
3500rpm its all over for other reasons than the fact the turbo is too small
its all about torque with a diesel if you put a bigger turbo on it all you will do is loose good torque down low (which is all a diesel has)
you would be far better off buying a good ball bearing turbo and getting boost faster earlier and for longer all the way to say 3600 rpm

is it diesel??? :oops: ive been running it on tap water. yes i do realize that is is a diesel but thanks for letting me know any way, the turbo that is on it makes full boost at 1300rpm, it sits on the highway at 2800rpm in 5th at 100, so low down grunt isn't really gonna help me overtake a truck, i have looked into garrett ball bearing units and the are very similar in size to the CT 26, eg. CT 26 has a 42.9mm front wheel compared to a 46.5 of a gt2560 and the CT has a little bit bigger rear than the gt but it has a .48 A/R rear rather than the .64 of .86, in my experience ball bearing unit's don't spin up much quicker than plain bearing anyway its more do do with wheel size/manifold design than anything.

the specs on a GT2560 are very different to a CT26.

on a factory turbo 4.2L in 80series, the std CT26 will produce 10psi around 1800RPm and peak boost around 2200RPM

I cant see a CT26 working well on a 2.4L deisel at all

42.9mm vs 46.5mm on inducer of compressor and 67mm vs 62mm on the hot side.. doesn't seem like a huge difference to me especially with the CT-26 running a little .48 housing

what boost is your truck running as its running out of power at 3500 rpm??
is the turbo actually at fault

CT26 is way to big. i know some fit them to 2.8's and 3 litres and they are still a bit to big.
as far as toyota goes CT20 (2.4) or CT12 (from 3 litre diesel) is better.
if its for towing i would go for the smaller otherwise it will be a bugger to drive.
theres heaps of 2.5 diesels around you could get turbo's from. even some from the 2 litres may also work well.

The CT12b on my 1KZ-TE motor makes around 11psi of boost @ 2400rpm, but has 9psi by 1400 with a 3" exhaust.

Good sized turbo for a smaller motor. The CT20 was off the 2.4 TD surf, so be close to the right size for your mazda.
