hey guys,
just wondering if anyone has done a SAS swap into a 90's model lux and got it engineered in queensland. Im looking at using a 3inch loctup4x4 kit, and i figure there is no point in doing it unless i can get it legal. It would be great if someone has done one and used an engineer that i can contact so that he already knows what im talking about cheers.
Dave

If you have rear leaf and fitting front leaf it should not be a problem I am doing a coil SAS on the smurf and so far the engineer is happy and has no problems

Coil SAS 60 series front diff (Done By Me)

cheers mate for the encouragement. your truck looks like a weapon i'll have to stop being lazy and post a pic of my truck i just finished a twin turbo 1J conversion on my 1st gen 4runner.
Ive got an extra cab lined up to buy but i need to make sure from an engineer that they ok it. Could you give the contact number for your engineer? and what kit are you using?

Re: SAS into hilux - engineered
thought id better elaborate a little.
to do suspension mods like coil conversions, solid axle conversions you need to apply with one of these babys http://www.support.transport.qld.gov.au ... 54_es.pdfs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
the locktup kit has extended shackles (illegal in qld)
3-4'' lift (illegal in qld)
drop front hanger you get the point... not to mention that in the disclaimer all this gear is for off road use only. none of it is adr approved to say it complies with current regs ect. so good luck with that.
unless you can find a blueplater that may be able to do it throu a heavy vehicle code or something for the shock hoops ect get it engineered then take it to them but i doubt it. heres a list of codes
LIGHT VEHICLE CODES
LA1 Engine Substitution LH6 Individual and Low Volume
Vehicles (Construction)
LA3 Turbocharger and Supercharger Installation LH7 Panel Van to Utility Conversion
LB1 Transmission Substitution LH8 Roll Bar and Roll Cage Installation
LD1 Rear Axle Replacement LK1 Seating Cpaacity Alteration and

LD2 Differential Substitution LK6 Child restraint Anchorage Installation
LG2 Brake System Substitution (Modification) LK7 Motorcycle Seating Cpacity Alteration
LH2 Cpnvertible and Cabriolet Conversion (Modification) LM1 Fuel Tank Alteration

D1 Rear Axle(s) installation K3 Cabin Conversion
D2 Differential Substitution K5 Wheelchair Occupant Restraint System Installation
E1 Front Axle(s) Installation K6 Child Restraint Anchorage Installation
F1 Suspension Substitution M1 Fuel System Alteration
F2 Trailer Suspension Modification P1 Tow Coupling Installation Vehicles Over 4.5 Tonne GVM
G1 Relocation of Air Brake Components P2 Fifth Wheel and King Pin Installation
G2 Installation of trailer Braking Controls – Air Brakes Q1 Installation of Truck Mounted Lifting Systems - Slewing
G3 Trailer Brake System Upgrading R1 Goods Loading Device Installation

G5 Auxiliary Brakes Engine, Exhaust or Retarder Type S1 GVM & GCM rating to S2 or S3 Approved Design or within Manufacturers Specification
G6 Air Operated Accessories S7 ATM Mass Rating to S12 Approved Design or within Manufactures Specification
G7 Brake System Substitution or Wheelbase Extension Powered Vehicles S8 Road Train Prime Mover Rating
H1 Wheelbase Extension Outside the First Manufacturers Option T1 Construction of Tow Trucks
as said above you can get it engineered but that doesnt mean anything with out a blueplate which you need a code for. otherwise it has to go through dot.
good luck id be interested if there was a way around it..

Re: SAS into hilux - engineered
Thanks for your input mate. Im in the same boat as you i know that these mods are technically illegal in QLD. Im just trying to find out what people have done in Queensland and see what ways there might be of getting around it. Ive seen a few trucks around with it done so there must be few getting around under the radar. Cheers for your help.
