Who has broken an LT-230

Post by napsta »

There's a heap of talk going on on pirate: http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=929843" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Paging Tony, Cramp, Sam, Dave, Mal, Keck....

I know of some custom disconnects coming apart, but what have people torn up internally?

I stripped a rear output, but was maintenance as a whole heap was loose and allowed it to walk.

I've had 5 of them in various rigs over the last 8 years. Biggest tyre I ran was a 37". Never broke one. The only issues I've heard about are maintenance related. I think they are an awesome t-case.

I have brocken TWO.
4.2 V8 - zf auto - bob tailed rangie.
first was a cross shaft failure on an old one. didn't have much wear marks on the shafts but the thrust washers were nackered.
Second is still in the car - i'm lazy..... It will be the same.
Except this one was re built with a JMac single peice shaft with new washers and was very tight.
Both failed after load transfer from rear to front, when you are poping the front up and over an obstacle and landing heavily.
Second one happened at the Beauy Leisure show, after I drove/jumped some tyres(buried vertically)....and noone got photos.
didn't even know, till it got stuck with no front drive....
I beleive the 230 in my moon buggy(X-rockhammer rig) is the same one it was built with way back when.....and it's welded(thanks Haultech).
Hope this helps,
Dan
