I am going to turbo the GQ TD42 it is setup as a tourer with 35s and all the usual barwork etc. It will usually be towing trailers @ 100 kph for hours on end.
I am looking at a GT3071 ar .64, I know the Gt28 turbos will boost earlier but generally have higher EGTs further up the rev range particularly under load with the constant higher speeds, I figure the bigger turbo will be easier to keep the EGTs under control.
Any comments guys as I am trying to make a reliable machine capable of towing for hours and still be able to play when I get there.

to further this question, im hoping with experience in these matters could help out.
i have a safari turbo with a .63 rear housing on it, which i changed from the .82 as the 82 was crack around the wastegate and wouldnt make boost, laggy etc, how similar/different would a GT3071 or a GT28 be compared to the safari turbo in terms of spool up/lag etc.
at the moment my boost runs up to about 14PSI by 2500 but then falls away as the revs rise to around 11 out to redline, would the newer turbos not do this or still have the same issues with not flowing enough up high?

I think that the main problem with high egts in the gt28 is the smaller .64 housing so you would get the same problem if you run it on a larger turbo. (just aussming NOT FACT)
A the moment i am looking into getting a custom TD05 turbo from united fuel as they boost about the same as a 2860-71 an run about 130 degrees pluse cooler pre turbo temps, about the same post but no good for your motor.

A bigger turbo produces less boost, higher EGT's and less power.
For towing you need a small turbo, not a big one. A 3071 is ridiculous for a TD42.

I have a gu 2004 ute with a 2860RS .64 hot side on it i just towed my mates patrol home the other week from down south on the car trailer and it had plenty of torque big hills slowed it up a bit and saw egts round the 500 to 550 mark at times but drops very fast when u take the foot off the gas . the truck has awesome torque down low for the play time hill climbing ect and i had the 35's on it when i was towing the trailer with a 6 inch lift so it is a pretty heavy truck hope this helps.

im just got my 3071 for td42 and will be fitting up hopefully this wkend.. atm ive got 2860rs so will be able to tell exactly how it drives.. also changing intercooler from large water to air to a 780x300x76mm air to air cooler.. im expecting to be laggy with this turbo but a swaftec industries pump and tune that hopefully be installed before xmas ill think it will be fine way less laggy.. should go great... the man know his shit

I'm not up to date with all the turbos offered in kit form. But suitable turbos in the garrett range start about the GT2560 point. How much boost are you running? 16 pound boost stock cooler 12mm plunger in pump. i been looking at making my scoop twice as wide and putting a big air to air cooler on it i have heard great results from them.
