Actuall the 2F is almost a chev motor, its based on the chev straight six from the 1960's.gingerbreadman wrote:actually stuff any addatives..sooner it blows up the better than i can go chev shopping
In answer to the original question, Yes, but only because the cyl head is cast iron.

when you say the motor will wear out quickly, do you understand that it is only the valve seats of cast iron heads that areboner59 wrote:Short answer

... says "no".
I guess they got hardened valve seat inserts at some stage due to unleaded coming in. Plus, a lot of the older ones will have had the heads off and had this done at some point in their lives.

Re: do i need lead replacement addative in a 1979 2f motor?
IMO in my experience I never bothered with it in my old 3F, I put ~60,000km on that car without issue running on LPG/unleaded.
How quickly would valve seat recession occur?

Re: do i need lead replacement addative in a 1979 2f motor?
i dont use any aditives on my 84 2f in my 60,it mostly runs gas but also unleaded at times,my donks pushing 500,000 kms, still original motor, and still going strong, though it did get the head revalved earlier in the year
Re: do i need lead replacement addative in a 1979 2f motor?
no you don't...
the yanks phased out leaded petrol much earlier than we did, and they have no issue. as do thousands of cruisers in australia that have been running gas for the last 20 years...
by the time the valve seats give you issues, it'll be time to tidy it up anyway..

Re: do i need lead replacement addative in a 1979 2f motor?
Note that even if the valve seats are ready for unleaded the octane rating means you may need to retard the timing a bit from whatever the 1970s setting was.

I second the 20000km adjustment and often found some tight exhaust valves but i mostly ran on gasbad_religion_au wrote:huh? i ran my 2f for over 120 000 k's without valve adjustment issues...mavzilla wrote:valves close up on exhaust every 20000km, need adjusting a lot or put in stellite seats if your rich
