So I finally got around to install a LED interior light system in the 80 series to have better lighting when camping. Here is my write up..... enjoy:

The LED lights I purchased were these - https://www.whitworths.com.au/main_item ... olutePage=. I loved the fact they are able to be rocked 180 degrees.

I bought two of them as I thought the more light the better  And I couldn’t turn my back on the price!!!

As you can see here, the factory interior lights are pretty dull.
Image

Here are the tools that are required for the job. The plan was to put a light on either side of the interior door handle on the rear door.
Image

Here are one of the lights I bought still in the package.
Image

First thing I had to do was unscrew and remove the interior door handle so I could pull off the complete rear trim.
Image

Door trim removed.
Image

First light installed.
Image

The hole was drilled in the trim so the wires of the light could be accessed.
Image

The first light up.
Image

And again.
Image

The two lights up.
Image

And again.
Image

This is the auto cable I used to extend the wiring from the light to the auxiliary battery.
Image

The cables put through the door rubber grommet
Image

And sealed up.
Image

The cable needs to run down the door and through and under the rear passenger and front passengers door trims.
Image

Then the cable to run through the engine firewall.
Image

First light attached to the auxiliary battery.
Image

Doh! The cable was 20cm (if that) too short. I had to buy another roll of cable.
Image

Both batteries wired to the auxiliary battery. Now I had to wait till night time to see how they performed.
Image

Night time! This is a photo of the rear door with no lights on.
Image

This is a photo of the rear door with the factory interior lights on.
Image

BOOM!!! The LED lights work a treat! So much light!
Image

The lights are turned to shine on the bench.
Image

The lights are turned to shine into the cabin.

Hope you enjoyed the write up. :D

Looks good mate... I bought two of these a few days ago - one for the interior of my car and one for the missus' car.

I'll report back how they perform when I find out.

You make it look so easy! Nice job.
How much wire did you use all up?

nice install! No concerns with crushing the lights if the 80 is packed tight full of stuff?

I just bought some of these http://cgi.ebay.com.au/4-x-75-LED-light ... 41546d07f9 no affiliation blah blah.

They are great, bright clear light, very compact and light weight.
I am going to use some for lighting inside my tent and was thinking of doing similar to you guys for the back of my cruiser.
I was thinking I will stick them on with doublesided tape and wire them in to the existing cargo bay lights. they draw very little power, so no need to wire them to the battery.

I was looking at those lights but I loved the fact with the ones I got is that you can rock them 180 degrees (turn them into the cabin, onto the bench, and out to camp). I wired them up to the auxillary battery as I wanted them on when I wanted them on.

Thanks for the feedback guys :D

yeah i have one of the smaller ones in the misses vitara does the trick and as you say that you can rotate them means i can aim it into the front of the cab or the rear of the cab. took the farther inlaw to whitworths and got him hooked on the lights you installed

I quite like my halogens - much higher draw but I"ve got LED's that suffice for most of the time in the truck, and the downlights are really only for working on the tailgate, seeing in the fridge etc. Wired second batt as you'd expect, but they were donated and suit the task admirably :)
