Yeh mate iv had all sorts of 4bies and a few months back i got an fj60 84 model typically she has a little rust but she is pretty stock but has been fully restored and ill tell u she had very plesantly suprised me it gets more flex than my mates stock 80 and is more thab capable off road. I cant wait to mod her up only thing i can sugest is lsd diffs werent standard till 86 so check the diff housing it will say lsd oil only if not she is open diff. Dont let it worry u tho mine is open and i go as far as all my friends do with there lsd jeeps and hilux's they are a great truck mate
Re: fj60 land cruiser
Toyota LSD's are rubbish. Even if you have one, chances are it's not working. The only major faults with the 60 series other then rust is the gearbox. Check to make sure it's not falling out of 5th gear when decellerating (or any gear for that matter). Some other things to look at are the pitman arm end drag link joint. They wear out fairly quickly and cause a lot of slop in the steering. Not a major job, but still a few cartons in parts. The window regulators also wear out and won't wind up and down properly. The transfer case is fairly solid, but can cease up if not used. So if it's a 'never been off road' sort of truck check to make sure the transfer shifter, and the locking hubs operate smoothly. Everything else is just general maitenance. Look out for the front steering hub swivel seals. If they are leaking its a messy job to fix, and if you're paying to have work done on it, it could be a 1000 dollar bill.
The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.

Re: fj60 land cruiser
I've nothing against 60's but if you want a more versatile more easily modified truck go for something with coils like an 80 or GQ Patrol. So much easier to lift and put bigger tyres under than a leaf sprung truck. And usually more comfortable as well. And cheaper to modify. Plus they are cheap these days. The 60 also has a big overhang at the back (poor departure angle) and it's wheelbase is shorter than a normal long wheelbase, which is good and bad.
