NO OBC for 2011

A Change for the Outback 4X4 Challenge

After much consideration we have chosen not to continue running the Outback 4x4 Challenge in Broken Hill.

The current CCDA calendar would have three similar events in central NSW within 47 days, including two around Broken Hill, which we don't foresee as being viable for competitors, marshals or ourselves.

Over the past 12 years we have loved the event, being with the people involved and the excitement of being involved in the emergence of the sport but after pioneering a four wheel drive event in the region, we now see this as an opportunity for us move on to create something different, knowing that there is a local Broken Hill event emerging.

We want to thank all the sponsors, supporters, competitors, spectators, property owners and marshals who have been involved in the event over the past 12 years.

The marshals are an integral part of the Outback 4x4 Challenge. In our meeting where we announced the changes, they requested we continue our regular marshal meetings to keep the group together - an indication of their dedication and passion.

The Competitors have themselves grown since the inception of the Outback 4x4 Challenge in 1999 - watch one of the early DVDs and you will know what we mean. We thank them for their tenacity, skills and encouragement.

Thankyou to the sponsors and supporters from all over the world and Broken Hill, especially the local council and tourism department, who ensured that everyone who is a hard core four wheel driver now knows what Broken Hill has to offer.

To all the Journalists, including Fred from The Netherlands who attended 9 of the events, and of course Merrick and his crew who put the DVD together. Thanks to you we have the memories.

So What is in the Future?

We have over the years been asked to run the Outback 4x4 Challenge in other locations within Australia and overseas places such as the Middle East and Africa.

We now see this as an opportunity and are keen to create the Outback 4x4 Challenge in other locations. We want to run something every two years and cater for the enthusiast that wants something really different and an adventure they could never have imagined.

We will be producing an event which is held in a different location each time and which takes on the best from our favorite events such as; the Australian Safari, The Dakar, King of the Hammers and of course the Outback 4x4 Challenge. Starting with an event in Australia and looking at moving to an overseas location after that.

The teams we will be catering for will be the elite in the sport, from all across the globe and teams who are up for the 'Ultimate 4x4 Challenge'.

So watch this space and click on the links to our blog page (coming soon), Facebook and Twitter for more information on the Outback 4x4 Challenge.
