My opinion: 1hd is old tech, and 1vd will be the future for conversions. Also now that the 70's are standard with the 1vd there will be no short supply.

You may well be correct, but the single turbo version is mated to a manual box & I want an auto.........so will they mate correctly. Will the VD motor be too powerful for the rest of the 100 series chassis, probably need to engineered as different engine mounts will need to be fabricated etc.......comments please

1HD is a pearler, 1VD still needs to prove itself in my opinion...

Chunks...had my first drive of a mate`s highly modified 75 series.....full coil suspension all round plus THE MOTOR is auto form the day and was very impressed, just a shame he has a pintel tow hook arrangement otherwise would have put the caravan on the back for a run....even so it completely took apart a real good hill no effort at all.......hence the search for a 1HD to the point of looking O/s.

The VD seems to be an engine that doesn't fit much. Where the HD series sit nicely in the engine bays of most landcruisers.

Best bet is a complete wreck. Can be worthwhile but can blow your dollars as well.

Anyone priced a complete 1hd-fte from toyota with a conversion in mind? (so everything you're going to need)

Doubt it will be cheap, but the option is definitely there.

i don't know much about importing motors but for what its worth I've driven a heap if 1HD-FTE vehicles in auto and manual and they are a bloody awesome motor, it's no wonder they are hard to come by.

Like others have said, the first time I drove a 1VD i wasn't really impressed, it drove nice, something seemed to be missing in the power delivery.

I'd be speaking to the Jap motor importers to see if they can get one in for you on a shipment. probably easier than trying to bring a single unit in, and cheaper.

To buy one from Toyota would be a very expensive exercise as I need the motor, g`box, transfer case, ECU and wiring....thats why one from a wreck is first choice.
