Intake manifold cleaning

Post by ledgend80 »

as the title says i am looking at getting an intake manifold cleaned inside and out. does anyone know what would be the best way to clean it out. i was thinking something like a bead bath where you put the parts into a vibrating hopper full of beads. but was also looking at trying to get as much oilo that has soaked into the casting out as possible.

preferbably in the brisbane area.

When I removed mine, I gave it a pretty good clean using those $2cans of Export degreaser from Supercheap (best degreaser ever I recon). But I ended up taking it to my engine builder with the rest of the engine and they put it in the hot tank (which is safe for soft metals like alloy and brass). I couldn't believe how good it came up, it looked just like new again. I doubt an engine shop would charge much just to hot tank a manifold so it might be worth asking around.

Find your local engine shop and get them to bath it, maybe $50, but you will know it is cleaned properly.

Hot tank it.

You could get the outside bead blasted but I wouldn't recommend it for the inside, the beads like to get lodged in hard to reach places and can end up going through your motor.

Just double check on any "hot tub"type cleaners... while they are hot they also sometimes use alkaline solutions to clean stuff... this solution MAY actually attack your manifold alloy material.....

X2

I use it for heaps of things. It will strip all shit from alloys without damaging it.

It is also excellent for rusted and seized bolts / nuts. Just spray a little on, go have a smoke & a beer, come back ( with another beer) and undo it.

Cheers,

Micko
