destroying 79 series cruiser Transfer input shafts

Post by tezza88 »

got a 79 series landcruiser, on to my 3rd transfer input shaft in 7 months.
On these the out put shaft from the gear box and the input shaft to the transfer are joined with a sleeve, after stipping the spline off of the original toyota jobby (aparently a common problem) i replaced it with an after market 1 wich is much thicker, stronger and covers the gearbox output shaft a bit more. the new input shaft and adapter sleeve is now a 1 peice job ($200). ( this 1 is designed to over come the fault descibed above.)
any how after 7 months i've broken the new "beefed up" one. sheared the adaptor sleeve off just b4 the start off the transfer input shaft. WTF...GRRRR.....

So b4 i just replace it with the same after market job (gettin a new 1 under waranty) does any 1 no if any manufactures make an extra heavy duty unbreakable one ??. dont wanna keep pullin the transfer apart every few months

Hi all...Your better off getting rid of that gearbox and transfer and getting a gearbox and transfere out of the hdj factory turbo model,Or one out of the 80 series. You wont break that box or trans.
PEACE...

thanks 4 the sugestions. as far as i no toyota dont make the improved 1 piece shaft. couldnt get 1 wen i tryed a few months ago. but after a few phone calls got a hold of one of the head guys of the supplier, thay had a bad batch of the shafts that they already knew about and i was unlucky enough to get 1 of them. they where more then happy to replace it with a new 1 which is garenteed to be all that they are hyped up to be... all problems fixed.
