Auto Transmission Oil Temp Gauge

I am interested in installing an oil temp gauge in my 1993 GQ with an auto transmission.
I do have oil coolers fitted already.
Should it be fitted on the oil return pipe into the gearbox just after the oil cooler as my gearbox service centre recommended or on the hot outlet side?
Which is the best location for it?

I'd say hot side for sure - that way it shows the actual temperature in the transmission.

Jason you should always measure eth heat at it's hottest point and not at it's coolest. That's only going to tell you were doing 2-3 minutes ago and that just to late. You want to know how hot your transmission is getting. Fit it to the out going cooler union.
