Hey guys hows it going.
For what ever reason i seem to be lost at where to direct myself on modifying my 75. Its already got 33s and a rear locker. So now I want to sort other things out. And i dont know where to start as I know I will never stop. My list involves every thing.
I think I should start with fiddling with the suspension or a snorkle. What do you guys think. I can sort out all the things like tray, rooftop console, engine work Later. I want to replace the 2h with a 12ht. I don't know why it seams like a hard thought. But when my misses was talking to me about getting me spotties for chrissy coming in 12 months and i was trying to articulate what i want to do next. I couldn't. So i figgure I need advice lol. As i budget for what im doing i needa plan what im going to do.
What would you do if it was yours (and I dont need any sell it and buy a patrol comments each to Thier own) unless someone wants to give me 7 grand for my 75 as iS then id consider a patrol.

Drive it more until you have no doubt what needs to be modified next to get you where you want to go.

I want to be able to drive what ever I come across when im out. I prefer mud and muddy hills but i still enjoy rocks and rock climbs. I enjoy every thing. That's what makes it a little hard the plan.

How about extended diff and gearbox breathers plus the snorkel you said before
then move on to a winch.

Having all the toys in the world isn't going to help if you cannot control your vehicle confidently and drive it SAFELY. Without decent driving knowledge it is still going to end up down a hillside on its roof.
First dibs on all your toys from the wreck.....

Re: what mod next
How do you guys know i havent had driver training? You guys have to get out of the habbit of thinking every one is a newbie. I have driven enough to know what i need. It's more my list is so long and while i spent over a year getting rid of debts and buying a house I had enough money to maintain my 75 and fix what broke like my rear diff, I dont know where to start. Do i start with making the interior more comfortable. Or makimg it more capable. do i sacrifice my wish to do as much as possible myself and get some one to do my snorkle for cheap insurance. Or do i just drive smart like i have done since i got the car and not let it have the chance to suck in water and still do it myself later.
that advice Is more what i ment guys. Some times just answering the question asked is better than answering the one you think should have been and in some cases being smart about it like having parts from the wreck.

Don't worry bout Garry.... If you drive by yourself get a winch, if you drive in a group get a front locker

A front locker will not flip you back on your wheels if you turtle it.
A front locker will help you turtle it. Witch one do you think you should do first?

Re: what mod next
I always go with a minimum of one other fourby. I will always carry a turfer. Even when i get a powered winch. I'm thinking of getting a tigerz winch until I replace it with a hydrailic one. Im not thinking about a front locker for a little while yet. I gotta lern the rear one first

Re: what mod next
Not much to learn with a rear locker IMO, they are helpful but the most gain comes from a front locker, if you want a hydraulic winch then save for that, pointless spending coin just to replace it later and if you have a tirfor and another car you'll get out of most things anywayWambat wrote:I always go with a minimum of one other fourby. Re: what mod next
That was what I thought. But didn't know how long a hydro could be away. Could be a year or 5. Ok well I guess ill figure it out. I have a turfer for pulling it right side up if anything goes wrong.

Re: what mod next
dont go to patrol lol. your 75 will take you anywhere mate. a decent winch combined with rear locker and a good leaf setup will get you anywhere (within reason) even an auto locker in the front would be a good investment. just take it easy though as they a very unpredictable little sh!ts

Re: what mod next
For me its pretty hard to suggest what needs to change as none of us have seen it in action.
basicis first if things like breathers are not already done.
how well does the current suspension work?
as for snorkle how often do you play in stuff deep enough to be a risk, if you will use it then its a must?
My first ute never had a snorkle and i busted my nuts to get a snorkle then never used it.
Personally I would be looking at bigger tyres - but not until you swap engines, so rule that out for now.
Plus you would need to do suspension first anyway. if your popping wheels to much then this is going to make a big difference particularly if its currently stock. dont go too high.
I would personally probably do suspension first - it will get you further. your hand winch will save your butt if needed.
decent rool bar in the tray if possible seeing as you like it steep and slippery.
next a winch - nothing wrong with a tigerz unless you need the speed of the hydrolic. spend the other coin of more fun bits.

Re: what mod next
I vote for a winch. Even with all the toys you'll always find something you just can't drive. If you don't have one, get a hilift jack and shovel too. They are the most valuable recovery tools.
May as well get out and enjoy what you've got, get stuck a few times and learn the easy ways of getting out of stuff. Get lessons if you want, or find a mate to bring along who is experienced, or a lateral thinker.

U have 33s good start!
I'd go a rear locker
Then suspension
Then winch
Then snorkel
I don't know how deep Ur pockets r if they deep enuf do all 4 at the same time and get a bit of a discount.
My 2 cents

Re: what mod next
maybe make your car a little more know in the build up section so people know how to help....
well i'm not going to say anything that hasn't the horse doesn't need flogging... but depending on how much you drive this thing a good sound system wouldn't go a stray and some nice comfy seats 75s are not known as been the best for your back side.... and its just me but have a nice truck with good toys is all good but do you use all the toys all the time....
the seat and the noise you might a little more often...
and if you have these covered then don't worry about it...

There are a few things you can do that will make your vehicle more capable and on the cheap, if you have a welder.
-Front leaves, modify them with a 60 pack to get much better front flex, may also need to mod the shock mounts
-Hi clearance U bolt plates - buy from superior engineering or make your own.
-Mod the rear leaves or move the mounts to fit modded 79 series packs for a better ride and more flex
-Widen the wheel track, offset rims or use a 60 rear diff and hilux hubs up front
-Protection equipement, some kind of sturdy front bumper and sliders are a good start

True - but I did a course for work and I gained a few points out of it - but it was basic stuff mainly and I wouldn't have paid for what they taught.
One interesting bit - the HUGE difference having 4wd engaged on dirt roads makes for breaking and steering
I doubted them at first - until we lined up the cones and tried 4wd vs 2wd on a standard dirt road.
But...
I'd go winch before front locker myself - very handy and comforting if you ever go places alone to know you have it there as backup - just make sure you get one with a low gear ratio unlike the cheap Warn and imports

Thanks heaps guys. Your replies are great. And sorry that i phonecrastinate but after sitting down thinking hard. and wheeling on the weekend in wombat. I have decided to go to the darkside. Not cause my car isnt capeable. As I held my own against two gus and a qg.
I want more room. I still want a ute. But i want a dual cab. So I can put shit on the back seats. There is just so little room in a 75. And as i was talking to the local fourby shop about what i would have to do to putt coils under the 75 and that merged to using a gq chassis and rebodying the 75 to it. I think just getting a gq would be the beter option in the long run.
Sorry for wasing your time guys. But the info will still hold true woth a new fourby any way.
