Hello all
I'm new to these forums and I hope you can help me, I've been experiencing this for over a week and I really don't know what's the problem.. but it has to do with the electric and ignition in the car.
I own a '93 nissan patrol GQ with a TB42 (Gasoline) engine, the engine is completely stock and it was running just fine before.. the problem is, I have a carbon fiber bonnet custom made, what I have seen is this. I went out with friends on an offroad trip and while climbing a sand dune I came upon a steep decline then from what I saw since my bonnet is half opened like the ones you get to see on japanese skylines or supras, I saw spark coming out from the distributor side, when this happened the car lost its power.. at low throttle the car runs fine but on full throttle at once the car starts cutting as if there's not enough gasoline or anything to make it run fast, I've checked with the mechanic, he said maybe the coil wire came in touch with the bonnet and there happened a short circuit, I really don't know, I've opened up the distributor cap, checked the points and everything seems to be running just fine, the ignition timing is fine too, anyone has any ideas? please help.

Re: Nissan 1992 GQ TB42 Problem! Help!
lead cant arc to a bonnet that isnt a conductor... try changing the dizzy.. and coil as its probably just spark not letting it rev so change that first..
Re: Nissan 1992 GQ TB42 Problem! Help!
I changed the coil, distributor cap, dizzy, point, spark plugs and wires, removed the carb cleaned it completely and still the same.

check your main battery cables at the battery and at altanator and sarter motor also all your earths from the battery, if you have power loss it could come form as little as a loose on not clean connection, also when you saw the sparks where under your bonnet did you see them? if it was on a decline the battery could be loose in its holder and earthing out also causing power loss and creating spark, as for it sounding like its not getting fuel it may be loss of ignition causing the fault
