81 Rangie,indicator issue!

Post by Critical_movement »

Quick Q for the Guru's!

I got knocked on a RWC for my indicators not canceling in my 81 2dr.......Just wondering, without fucking around with it,does anyone know how to fix this?
or should i just rip into it and have a crack?

Cheers

Remove the top and bottom cover plates of the steering column, the ones behind the steering wheel, if you move a bit of wiring out of the way you should be able to see the mechanism. Turn the steering wheel and see whats happening. Take it from there.
The car is now thirty years old and the parts may be worn out but spares are out ther just be carefull of the really cheap stuff.
out of my mind, back soon.

as swamp said.

A new indicator switch should fix the issue if the old one can't be repaired.

from memory also if you decide to put the indicator stalk on the wrong side of the steering column (in this case being the right hand side of the steering column) then the cancel mechanisim wont work also

Thanks guys,I ripped into it......think the little plastic bits have warn on the stalk....but also the little metal clip wasn't in the right place,so i fixed that up so it looked like it should work....still no good, So I snapped the little plastic arm bits off and then glued them back in place a little closer...I wasn't really expecting it to,but it seems to have worked!
I don't think i'll use them again untill the 2nd inspection so they dont break again.....but it's sorted for now!
Thanks again!
