Front Speakers

Hi Guys,

I was hoping someone could tell me what size the front stock speakers are...
I picked up some good speakers cheap from a mate, and before I go to the trouble of ripping the dash apart next weekend, I was hoping someone could confirm the size for me.

I'm guessing 4".

G'day Dan, I think 4" is right.

Don't expect miraculous improvements though by changing them. They're mounted pointing down and have no enclosure on the back so it will always be hard to get decent sound out of any speaker in that spot.

Hey I think they are 4inch speakers as well. :lol:

I tryed 2 change mine but I couldn't work out how to get the old ones out so I just left them in. The stock ones arn't that bad if you have a good head unit to power them.

yes the front dash mounted speakers are 4 inch and you will NEVER get ANY decent sound from ANY 4 inch speaker and they are VERY easy to blow.... what i did was i left my speakers alone and i got an mtx marine speaker and had it mounted onto the top of the dash above the temp gauges and the head unit. works a real treat. can get a photo if anyone needs it.

My front ones are ok...I have an apline cd player fitted in. Was thinking on the weekend about getting ones put in hte door....maybe thats the go?

You'd need some sort of spacer/ pod to mount them on the doors (there's no space in there with the window down) It's what I've been thinking about doing; I've already got tweeters mounted up on the rear panels of the mirrors but the bass is a problem.

and yes its a 12... provides quite a bit of bass i would.. nice mtx... :armsup:

Go to a Car Audio Shop if your feeling lazy. They should be able to supply pre-made door pods for either a single speaker or splits, that are slightly angled, made from a combination of wood and fibreglass. Also are covered in a grey vynil which is nearly an identical match to that of the Ferozas. Unless using a speaker with an overly large voice coil/magnet on the back, should fit most 5 1/4" or 6" speakers no problem this way.

Well I have a few plans..

I wasn't to sure whether it was a 4x6 or just a 4".
I've got abit of gear sitting at home that I'll be putting in some time soon (When i make the box)...

Currently Has
Alpine tape deck & 6 disc changer.
Stock Fronts, Pioneer 6x9's in the rear.

I'll be replacing the deck with an old Alpine 7949 (No speaker outputs)
10" PPI Sub
2x Cadence amps (power front, rear and sub)
4" Sountream SPL 2Ohm splits..

And later down the track I might add a 6 1/2 or 8" woofer in the door.
Bass won't be much really..

I used to be a competitor in SPL comps (PB. 147.7dB), and was one of the team that built Australia's loudest car (165.9dB on it's debute). I was heavily involved in CAA (Car Audio Australia) but due to personal reason withdrew my involvement with them, I now participate with ACAP (Aus Car Audio and Performance)..

Due to lack of funds and having a motor bike and no car for 6 months, I have been very quiet in the car audio scene, so I'm looking forward to getting the beast decked out.

I monted new 6" speakers in the rear (on top of the arm rest) and used the existing front speakers for the CB radio.

Just whack some 6x9's in the back by using spacers that you can get from jaycar for like $10. Make sure you get a good head-deck and set up the balance so that the fronts are only just working.
A Sony xplode 222w amp fits nice and snug under the rozas drivers seat.

it is possible to replace the front speakers without pulling the dash apart. i did mine. it will take you about 2hours and a lot of paitence. i made up some rear covers for mine and they sounded pretty good. They were 100w 3way jvc . the hardest part is twisting ya hand to undo the screws holding the speakers in. Use styro foam to make covers fro rear of speaker and glue it on.

I also had 2 6x9 300w jvc 3wayin the back and 2 10inch 250w subs in a custome box powered by a 2chanel 300w amp mounted above the glovebox and a single disc JVC 4x45w head unit. it was loud enough even with the roof off :shock:

Brendo: Already got some 6x9's mounted in the back.. Just some basic Pioneer ones...
Alpine 6 Disc stacker mounted under the driver seat.. So prob not much hope fitting either of my amps under there... But I may take a closer look, as it would free up abit of space for me...

built4thrashing: Well after pulling EVERYTHING apart, I would agree with you.. But to fit these 4" speakers back in... no.. The magnets on them are as big as the speaker itself.. pretty much..

And after all that, the passenger side is missing the metel bracket to hold the speaker... On the plus side.. I only had 1 left over bolt.. And I've found all my blown lights in the dash, and just have to replace them now..

Under the dash is a damn good idea... I think my amps are abit big.. But I'll check it out.. the 2 ch under the dash, and 4 ch under the stacker would be handy for space... but I'll have to sus it out..

Just need to find the right set of 6 1/2" splits that i'm after....

For moutning spots, these are the ones i came up with when i had my Feroza.

CD Stacker, mount it to the roof, inbetween the rear resin top and the front sun roof. Have it facing forward in the middle, just far enough back to miss the handle for the sun roof. Remove the plastic trim and screw the stacker directly to the metal, then cut a hole in the plastic trim and build a pod/cover so it will all neatly go back over the top of the stacker. this way it will be out of the way, easily reached and neat. Will just look a lot like a roof console.

As for larger amps, make up new rear side panels out of MDF and mount them where the side pockets on the rear guards would go. If the amps are narrow enough set them back into the panels a little so they are mounted in the space behind the rear 1/4's so they are less intrusive into the cab.

def. not mounting the stacker out in open, for people to see...

I've been there and got away with it, but I want to be able to park anywhere with this car, and leave it..

I've thought about doing something with the rear 1/4's.. But i'm undecided.. prob abit to much work, esp considering all my elec tools were stolen..

i have my amp fitted under the rear seat no problem and its 800 watts. also had a rear cage built as well.. as you can see in the above pics.

Brendo, do you recal whether there was much room for more than 1 amp??

I'm thinking I might try to mount 2 or 3 under there.... and the 10" sub in the floor well of the passenger side... *just a thought at this point*..
1 8" mid in the floor of each side is my other option...

Sorry yes I am abit of a stereo nutt.. But I'm not planning on spending much, it just comes down to the amount of effort...

Nah..

I'd just make a customer fibreglass box to mount them in...
I figure it could be a good way to keep the boot empty.. but
it comes down to the depth of the woofer as to whether it can be done EASILY... plus it saves doing much to the doors..

I had 7x10 mounted in the walls to teh rear. Running off a half decent amp, they worked well with enough low down to negate the sub, being a small car.

You could just buy a Disco.... comes stock with 4inch speakers in the front and back doors, tweeters at the front and CD player.... all you need is an amp and a sub... or 2.

Ice breaker - how did you end up going fitting speakers, placement etc? I am serioulsy looking into get something else put in mine and am just thinking at present where to put them....

I had Pioneer 6" Comp speakers in the back of mine, it was good, but soon after, the stock 4's blew out and I had to run all my decks power to the 6's. I didn't wanna kill the speakers, so I up'd the speakers to a pair of Pioneer 6x9's, cranks now, all runs off my Pioneer Mofset 50W MP3 head unit, NO AMP..!! Wanna put the 6" in the front, but as said earlier, no room. With spacers these speakers protrude into the floor area by like 50mm. The magnet on them is huge..
But still sounds good with just 6x9's, even with the roof off.

Well I mounted the Sounstream SPL 4's in the stock locatations.. Just..

There magnets on these babies is as big as the rest of the speaker, the passenger side speaker bracket was missing, so I had to use a strap from a Central locking kit to mount the speaker.. *might go visit a wrecker to get the proper bracket*

I went out and bought myself a GMC Jig Saw (All my power tools were stolen in 2003) And made new side panels out of 6mm MDF. I've mounded new Audiobahn 6x9's. I had to relocate some fuel tank thing on the RHS, no idea what it was for, but the magnets on the speakers were big again.

And the amp is just sitting on the floor, when I get a change I'll just make a small amp rack for them, and on give it a lifting lid, to store jumper cables and a snatch.

Next step is to make a new rear panel also, and make up some lighting options for camping etc.. thinking some 12v halogens or something in the door, and mount my 12v power inverter and have a couple power points in the back door also.

Then vynl all panels once I'm done, and carpet the amp/storage rack..

No chance your getting more than 1 under the drivers seat. The 222 was the only one we found that would fit under their

I'm still debating what to do with mine- some sort of pod on the door for a 6" is my currently favoured option.

That thing on the RHS is the fuel breather thing, I think is for relief from the tank, had the same problem when I mounted 6x9's in the back, but I didn't need to use spacers with mine (don't ask me how, it went close).

Nah 4" won't really produce any bass. I'm plaining on adding some Audiobahn 6 1/2" splits when funds allow.
