FJ73 Rear Leaf Bushes

Post by gixxerpilot »

So I was aiming to put my 2" lift kit into the 73 last night. Got over the the boys house where it is stored, fired up the barbie and had a few brews. Due to space limitations, we were planning to do one side at a time - 1 front and one rear. Got the front knocked over without any dramas but when it came time to fit the new bushes into the new rear springs we came across some dramas.

In the kit (supplied by 4wd1, awesome pricing but service and delivery speed leave a bit to be desired) we were supplied with 2 different sized bushes. The smaller ones were a perfect fit for the front, using some grease and light pressure from a vice to pop them in. The rear ones were bucketloads harder to get in but with grease, and a bigger vice we managed to get one ends worth of bushes in. Straight away, it was obvious that something was not right - the bushes had deformed to the point where the shackle would not even fit through the hole. :bad-words: We measured the eyes of the springs and the rear eyelets were marginally bigger so it made sense to us to use the bigger ones for the rear.

So the question is - does anyone know if the 73's are supposed to run different spring bushes front to rear? The kit consists of Rockcrawler leaf springs and SuperPro bushes (bushes are part numbers 2260 & 2270 if anyone is that interested).

I'd wait for someone else to confirm before ringing the supplier, but at least for 85-90 model years I'm pretty sure all 12 bushes are the same.

In both my middys all the bushes were the same which are also the same as 60 series bushes (rear middy springs are 60 series springs.

Cheer guys,

Spoke to Kirk from 4wd1 and he's organising me another set of the smaller bushes for the rear and helping me get them today. Can't complain about that, I suppose. Although at 11pm last night there was a fair bit of complaining going on..... Haha
