engine for 75 series ute

hey guys,

so i had decided to sell my 75 series ute. i being an honest person couldnt let it go with a leaking rear main(had only been leaking for a very short time) so i decided to put one in, got the gearbox out, and went to undo the clutch, had a small 3/8 ratchet on the bolts on the clutch to fly wheel, and as i turned the fly wheel went with it. no compression. happy happy joy joy.... so now i was pretty much torn, the reason i wanted to sell was driving the ute daily is uncomfortable especially when i dont use it for work, it is only a daily and play thing. so i decided a wagon would suit me better and i should sell it.

when i bought it i also had a commodore for daily driving so i had planed on not having to use it daily so it suited that purpose. but the day i got the 75 registered i wrote the commodore off, and so for the last year and a half i have been driving he ute daily.

so as the motor is rooted and its now not worth selling for me, im in the process of buying another daily driver.

so i want to know, what motor is worth dropping in to the 75, i want to upgrade the 2h, i know the 12ht would be a bolt in operation. but they can be hard to find, and very pricy, what about a 1hz with turbo??? hard to get in. whats involved. engine mounts, or are they fairly similar?? would i be able to run the same gearbox or would i have to go the one the 1hz comes with??

im open to all suggestions. budget wise, its going to go over a fair amount of time so i dont have an exact limit, but id say some where around the 5 grand mark. but i will do what i have to to get what i want ( if it was practical id go a super charged 454 on straight lpg) but a turbo diesel is more sutable

Check out the bible! By the time you buy a 1hz, Turbo kit, change radiator, engine mounts, fuel lines etc etc etc etc etc. A 12ht seems like a cheap option.

Maybe I missed something but did your engine somehow loose all compression between when you parked it and when you pulled the gearbox out?

i have no idea. when i pulled the gearbox out it was running the same as when i bought it, so i think it had stuff all compression back then.
