Re: fj40 with 60 series diffs, relay rod question
Your issue is that the 40 tie rod end won't fit in the 60 tapered joint because the 40 TRE is too small? There is someone that does an adapting spacer to solve this problem, otherwise you could get one made up.
Is the 40 relay rod long enough for the 40 TRE to engage the 60 joint in the first place? I've not done this conversion so I am only guessing the specific issue you're having.
Can I ask why you're not considering 60 power steer? Will solve your problem and be miles better than the 40 bell crank setup. Just seems a waste to have gone to the trouble of fitting 60 diffs only to stay with inferior 40 steering.

Can ya put the 60 series pitman arm on the 40 series box??? I don't know if they have the same spline count but it's worth looking into.

heres a pic of the 40 steering components from the steering box to the relay rod and bell crank in the middle.

Im of the opinion that if you have 60# front then you'd HAVE to go 60 steering conv. its the only way it'd work. As Ray said the bell crank makes things difficult.

Re: fj40 with 60 series diffs, relay rod question
Nope, standard box locations different for each model. 60 up front, 40 right up near firewall with stupid relay rod to bell crank with stupid pitman arm to drag link which always flogs out etc etc.Willy Hilux wrote:Can ya put the 60 series pitman arm on the 40 series box??? Do a 60/80 steer conversion mate, miles better and easy to do.

Re: fj40 with 60 series diffs, relay rod question
why anyone would bother with 60 diffs and not go 60 steer is beyond me the only way to keep the 40 gear would be to cut and shut the relay rods together
but it will be dodgy and im guessing unenginneerable
