Locktup high steer vs Trail Gear

Post by Ashley_bmx »

Gday fellas, just curious whether anyone has bought the trailgear high steer from america. and whether its the same set up as the locktup equivilant (ie, still need to weld in an IFS steering box ) . Its just the pictures of the trailgear high steer look decieving, like as if the draglink is going to be too short. And also if anyone knows on the shipping prices for them to get to say sydney. The trailgear website says you have to buy the parts before it gives you a shipping rate :bad-words:

Cheers guys, Ash

Why is that. The reason i ask, we are buying $ for $ with america at the moment and they only want $319 for the whole kit (minus the steering box mount plate), as opposed to 750 or something from locktup. I understand supporting the local guys. But when your talking a 3-400 dollar saving, i just cant afford to.

and that is why there is such a price difference.

Locktup 4x4 will always be the cheapest option, they buy in bulk to save on shipping costs. Savings that are passed straight onto their customers.

Keepin mind these sort of companies over price the shipping a bit to make you buy off these Aussie suppliers, third party shipping is not often as bad but for the hassle and the little u will save just buy off locktup.

Locktup do a great service, they have excellent customer service which includes in advice and info if needed on installation or ordering/ exchanging of products...

Bit hard to send something back to America if you get something wrong..

x2 what Brad said Ash.
The parts will be cheaper from the states, but they will quote a couple hundred for freight, to drive you to their aussie dealers.
Youll end up paying about the same.
Id just go with Locktup too.
I bought my hi-steer kit from Locktup, and Ill get around to fitting it soon hopefully.

trail gear wanted 1600 just for freight for springs and a high steer kit so you will end up better off going through locktup

Tthe others have a valid point in their circumstances, but my experience has been the opposite....

I've bought a few things from TrailGear direct, and saved heaps over LocktUp's prices.... like less than half price even with shipping.
Admittedly, these have been smaller items (but heavy, like chromaloy CVs), but I think it's worth emailing them for a quote. Their shipping guy is quite efficient and helpful via email.

I did speak to a girl from LocktUp's office a couple weeks ago, and she implied that they weren't/might not be stoking TG stuff anymore.... or maybe I've got it completely wrong.....

I should mention that I have also bought stuff from LocktUp before, and they've been great, but I can't justify double dollars just to support Aussie....

Can't hurt to ask, right...?

Hi, I bought my high steer from Trailgear. Yes you do have to weld in the steering box reenforcement. When the aussie dollar was around 89c it cost me under $900 delivered to my door. (Shipping was around $350.) I dont remember any one else offering high steer kits for under 1200 when i wanted to do it.

I would probably email them and check. Definetly get the steering box plates as well as the steering kit. Worth every penny.

Hope that helps.

what happens if u break the cv? do u pay for the shipping back to them for it to be warrented? i know with locktup anything that u buy off them that is lifetime warrented by trailgear they paid for return shipping at a cost to themselves not trailgear, trailgear would not cover the shipping costs, also most of locktups products are actually made in australia or sourced else where other than trailgear for these exact reasons, apparently "life time warrenty, no questions asked" means questions asked and shipping costs, ill stick to locktup for that reason alone, and double dollars? ur kidding right  maybe its just u but i have never paid double or even 1c more than i could get a product from elsewhere, from locktup, but thats my expeiriences and the reason they will get continued support from myself and my mates.
