late model 3.0 are supposed to be ok, a few drink more than they should and a few have had injector issues which are very exy.

the 4.2 is well, what it is. tough and archaic and i love it lol.

Still a few good late 06 utes with low kays floating around. I reckon these are a better option, but I would be prepared to spend a little bit on a 3" exhaust and tune at minimum as they are painfully slow standard.

yeah your pretty right with either one mate, depends on price between the 2, if your going to be towing alot of gear or looking to modify it for more power personally go the 4.2 but if looking to keep it standard and dont do a heap of hard towing etc 3lt be fine, . its only the the 3lt gus which were all wagons upto 05 model which is the older shape patrol were the crap donks

Hey mate glad to here your thinking of getting back in a 4by, I'm still chasing the same,

not many around thou, 4.2 's are still dear and not to many 3.0 's around either

both have their good and bad points, 4.2 's good for towing and turboing for more power

3.0 's not great for towing heavy loads,if chipped and bigger zoorts are not to bad, just a bit pricey

just spewing that I missed out on that GU 2002 turbo 4.2 diesel one for $10,000 :bad-words:

I just have to sell my GQ SWB and my GQ V8 Dualy before I can get mine.

Cheers Mick......

I would certainly track down a 4.2 intercooled Turbo.

Mates just bought 2 x 06 models. One with 80k one with 100 k and think were early 40's and 37 ish respectivelly with some but not many extras.

Cousin selling his on sunny coast when he gets around to advertising as not using it. 04 intercooled heaps extras vgc 180kish i think for say $30k ish.

If buying a 3L would certainly buy one inside warranty and pay for extended.

hi mate, i work in a mine near muswellbrook, and we have 2 brand new gu utes, with the 3.0 common rail turbo, and i own a gq lwb rb30 turbo, just my opinion but the new 3.0 diesel makes the td42 look like a 2000hp drag truck engine. they have no bottom end grunt, you cant idle them around slowly, and when you rev them to make power, by the time they JUST start to come on song they hit redline!
my rb30 makes better power off boost and way more tourqe. and it was better to drive even when it was carby and slow. i hate what nissan have done to there fleet of "tuff trucks" cos they are far from it now!
