Race Vehiche Transports
Ok guys, What do you use?
My brother and i are looking at what is going to be the best set up for us as we have just bought a Class 7 to race with, We plan on racing at Goondiwindi next year so that would be the bigest trip we would do but we also plan on racing the Coppers series as well till then, my brother has a 92 80 series and i have a GQ tray back but tow a camper, so we are looking at a small truck or a car trailer.
-Were do you store spare parts?
-Do you take extra fuel?
-Do you use it to sleep at events?
-Can you post some pictures of your set ups Truck or Trailer?
Thanks Heaps

Re: Race Vehiche Transports
Spares go on the tray once we load the truck on,sleep in the campervan.
Camper is set up with solar and carries 120l of water for drinking and showering.Truck has 3 huge scania truck battery's with a 1000w inverter and also carries 50l of water.
Wife got sick of sleeping in tents so this is the setup i came up with to keep her happy

Re: Race Vehiche Transports
Most people would use a car trailer or traytop truck.
Ive also seen some that use a pantech type truck, that fits everything in.

Re: Race Vehiche Transports
It is a great setup, i'm jealous.
How does it go with the camper behind the truck though, we towed a trailer behind a similar type of truck to LCMP once and destroyed the trailer A arm. Too harsh on the back on the truck over dirt roads.
I'm aiming for a car trailer behind the 4.8 GU. Just need to get total towed weight under 3.5t so need a light trailer.

Re: Race Vehiche Transports
I use a petrol 80, car trailer, and a tent. cooking lunch etc is done under a 4x2 gazebo.
But i went out and bought a camper trailer so my old way is out the window
I am a little curious as to how light trucks handle a 2.5T patrol(etc) with a camper in tow, as im thinkin on goin this way and getting a smaller 4x4 for weekends/daily.

Re: Race Vehiche Transports
I went with a nice big tilting curtain sider trailer with a workshop section up front. The sides become the roof for shade, i have 12v on board plus a compressor. LED Lights down each side and can throw in the BBQ when doing a trip.
This was before i started the reno on it

Re: Race Vehiche Transports
It cruises on 110km easy slows down to around 90km on the steeper hills.DIRTY ROCK STAR wrote:thats an awesome setup.

3.5l 4 cyl turbo diesel with 15-20 psi of boost using a Gready boost controller wich has a overtaking boost function.Once i intercool it i will run 25psi so it shouldn't slow down too much then.My old GQ petrol wagon slowed down more and used ALOT more fuel doing so.
That is an old photo, the camper has been modified alot over the last couple of months.Has better suspension than most offroad campers now

Re: Race Vehiche Transports
We use a 10tonne international lantern truck. Spares are in boxes in the truck and under the deck. There is on board air ( trucks air brakes) there is a 150 (I think) water tank under the bed. There folding bed mounted too the front wall above the cars bonnets that folds down, there is a fold down kitchen bench on the side with a elec pump from the tank for dishes etc. There is carpet rolled up at the front that gets rolled out after the car, stretch fits under the fold out bed, there is normally a genny mounted under the bed. There is flouros on the roof and a sail track down the sail so it's a car space and aurning. Spares are also zip Ried along the inside wall mesh.
Works well and is great foe tuff truck, etc sucks for day grips tho and can be a pain in the ass too get me ass in and lut of the car too put it in or tale it out.
All in all great set up!
No pics tho

Re: Race Vehiche Transports
ps- if you dont have an electric winch on your car carrier you need to get one.
It makes any tow so much easier if the job doesnt have propulsion.

Re: Race Vehiche Transports
i thought this is why you have a tow ball or rec hitch at the front of your tow car.... just next to the winch...Spartacus wrote:ps- if you dont have an electric winch on your car carrier you need to get one.

front towball make moving trailer easy apparently.Swag_Man wrote: i thought this is why you have a tow ball or rec hitch at the front of your tow car.... just next to the winch...

Re: Race Vehiche Transports
yeah it does for silly people like me who can't reverse a trailer to save my life. But i have used the winch on the front to bring in the ski boat from time to time as it is easier then the hand winch and was assuming the same would work for a comp rig into a tailor if the rig had lost the ability to move under its own steam...Spartacus wrote:front towball make moving trailer easy apparently.Swag_Man wrote: i thought this is why you have a tow ball or rec hitch at the front of your tow car.... just next to the winch...
