Hi,
First post for me. Im a bit stuck and would like some advice.
I have two h55 gearboxes and transfers from 60series landcruisers and Im trying to get one of them to fit into my hj47 troopy.
Gearbox 1 is a 1984 hj60 with a manual transfer shift lever but it has water damage inside and the gears are beyond repair.
Gearbox 2 is a 1986 hj61 with the vacume type transfer shift but this unit will not fit into a hj47 as it is too wide.

what I want to know is can I take all the gears etc out of Hj61 transfer 2 (vac operated) and put them into hj60 tranfer 1 and still have a functioning manually operating transfer case for my hj47?
Any advice would be appreciated.

you can convert a vaccum operated transfer to a manual operated.

you have to drill a hole etc for the detent ball/spring, and use the shifting shafts from a manual gearbox.

there is a guide on ih8mud that shows how to do it.

To answer your question, yes you can as long as both transfer cases have the same thickness idler shaft.
