Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Ok, so after seeing people from here talking about this in the past i want to find out who's done a power assisted clutch conversion on their standard 80 clutch?

I have priced the booster assembly and it is going to cost around the $900 mark So thought i would ask the outers oracle?

Are there parts i can use from a donor vehicle (like an hj61 with hydro) or am i better to trawl the wreckers?

I will detail the information in this thread as i progress as there appears to be no surplus of information on this particular topic.

I just went with an auto

But there is a clutch booster on some 80 series. I've seen them on sahara models. Good luck finding one though. 60 series had them too, might be more common but not a direct fit.

And when you say stanard 80 series cluch do you mean a bog stock standard? Because a good quality clutch, ie genuine or exedy won't need a booster.

Well I guess there is a first for everything?

I've got an hj61 donor car and i think fitting the power assist would be a massive hassel.

Let's see how i go ...

Ok, so many thanks to 80's_Delerious i have managed to attain all items necessary for the vacuum boosted clutch for the 80 series.

Instead of itemising all the parts I will let the picture do the talking:

























It seems like a pretty straight forward enough installation. I will need to drill the holes for mounting the booster to the firewall and probably a bit of line work but that should be all.

There appears to be a check valve in the system that is different between the diesel and petrol models, i may end up having to change this.

After looking through the manual there appears to be no surplus of information regarding the vacuum reservoir?! Makes it difficult to determine exactly what' going on inside it. There is also what appears to be a pressure switch threaded into the tank which i guess is for a low vacuum pressure (or high, depends which way you look at it) indicator light on the dash?!?

So that's where i am at. The v8 gets mounted first before i start drilling holes for the booster.
