fj80 landcruiser engine conversion
ive just bought a fj80 gxl auto landcruiser with a snapped crank auto is fine second hand engine is costly so im contemplating a v8 conversion either a 304 holden or a 5.7 chev outa vx has anyone done the conversion with toyota auto any help appreciated
Re: fj80 landcruiser engine conversion
I bought my ls2 off a guy that put one in front of the Toyota auto (it was a hundred series though). He got the boys at bullet to do the conversion because they are experienced with the Toyota gear.
Long story short, they had trouble getting the American engine to talk Japanese to the gearbox and ended up running the Toyota engine management sensors, computer etc. for it to work. This was not ideal considering, amongst other things, the throttle body for the 4.7 is significantly smaller than the ls2's...
either use a 4l80e or similar or go to a manual transmission.
BTW, there are people on here that will say you can put a v8 in an 80 series for $6000 and they may be right if you do it their way but, i have spent 18k already on my conversion and the engine is still sitting next to the car and i am doing the work myself. If money is tight you are better buying another engine of the same type to replace it.

Re: fj80 landcruiser engine conversion
The only way to succesfully run the toyota auto behind a LS1 is to use a standalone programmable trans computer. However i would still not recomend it. Go with the 4l60e or 4l80e auto, Much easier and suits the engine power band better.

Hi being an "fj" this means it has the 3F engine
is yours fuel injected or carb???
if carb you will have no trouble with using the toyo auto as it is a hydro box
the toyo box is stronger than the chev box
you could also source a hydro box from an early factory TD as they are also a hydro box (if yours is an efi)
