flywheel flexplate balancing

Sooo......i finally found time this week to work on my project. Today i used the trusty wire brush to remove the surface rust of the fly & flex......they look brand new

Anyway, to my inquiry, searching for flywheel balancing, i only came across information regarding flywheels from manual trannies. Now, it seems due to the abrasive action of the clutch on the flywheels, balancing will need to be done. Well, this type of scaring is not experienced by the flywheel of the auto, so do i still need to rebalance it? There is metal removed from the flywheel (not sure whether this was factory or not) in sporatic locations on the perimeter, indicating balancing.. There is also a single peg on the flywheel that mates perfectly to a hole in the flex, implying the balance of both together.

Any insight to this matter is appricated :)

Jonathan

I'm a little confused here.... wouldn't you be running either a flywheel OR flexplate, not both.... though I suppose your project could be some odd set up.. I'm sure if you post more info/pix the combined forum brain will be able to help...

Sorry the fsm calls it the "Driveplat" So for my setup, the sequence from the rear of the engine is, backing plate, flywheel, then Driveplat......then the Driveplat bolts to torque converter.

How do i upload pics?
