splitting radius arm bushes

Post by BeNoS »

hey all
on the long weekend just past managed to split not one but three(3) of the mushroom bushes that hold the radius arms to the chassis. ive heard of them splitting when hitting something pretty hard with the front wheels but i basically done nothing all weekend. it was pissing down rain so couldnt do much.
the only thing i can think of is that i have superflex arms in it to suit a 4 inch lift(only fairly new and hardly tested) but only a 3.5" lift. and this is causing the pin for the arms to sit slightly high at the front and causing them to split.
but otherwise im at a loss but its bitterly frustrating especially after managing to get one off a fellow 4wder and it splitting the next day, then having to drive home the 200kms to get there. Bushes are approx 2 years old or there abouts and genuine at that.
anybody got any ideas. hoping to ring superior tomoz and have a chat to them see if they have got any ideas but otherwise at a loss.
cheers

are you still using the std nissan washers on either side? once they deflect/deform then they no longer keep the bush constrained under load and tend to cause the bush to fail.

or if spacing is required

so if i get a pair of these one each side just for the front bush it should stop it busting??? as the rearward bush isnt causing any dramas at all???
just money is a tad tight atm so if i can get away with just the one pair id be stoked???

Does that cap washer go on the diff side of the radius arm or on nut side? Also will they work with drop boxes as I need to replace the mushroom bushes on my GU too.

2 years is how many kilometers?

I'd start by leveling the front out with spacers.

And those bolts should be torqued correctly with the car on the ground. It's all to easy to over tighten them when you use a rattle gun.
The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.
