Hey 4x4ers
Just wondering, im looking at buying an 05 and on model Hilux, and I just wanna know if theyre are any limitations in the suspension, i.e IFS/torsion bar, im lookin to do a minimum of a 2 inch tough dog lift but maybe 3 inch with 33 inch mud tyres...will i have any problems with those mods? plus i wanna put a comp spec front bar on, the ones that expose all the suspension on the front and still look awesome haha
thanks for any help in advance.
Cheers

Got the NUTZ to follow my RUTZ?
Re: Post 05 Model Hilux's
Post 05 hilux have coilover type strut not torsion bar, the limiting factor seems to be the cv joints as far a wheel travel goes, as for lift you can get anything up to 6". have a look at http://www.newhilux.net/forum plenty of info there
Re: Post 05 Model Hilux's
am running 305/70x16 MTR kevlars with 3" Monster Rides Kit......
No problem with cv's.
with a typical kit you can run 3", Monster Ride suspension kit includes the diff lowering mounts so at 4" of lift the cv angles are the same as at 2.5-3".
front diff is 8" and 30 splines driveshafts...alot better unit than the previous shape IFS Hilux's and much much more capable.

Re: Post 05 Model Hilux's
Don't the monster rides cv's offer more movement before binding as well?
I have heard from a local ARB dealer they lifted their hilux 4" with no diff lowering and the cv binds and something to do with the cv getting pulled out of the diff.

Re: Post 05 Model Hilux's
Ive run mine on a typical 3 " lift for 80,000km without a problem.
Ive fitted the monster rides kit now and have had it in for 5,000kms without problems.
Their diff brackets can be adapted to any other lift aswell to benefit from cv angle reduction.
I have heard of cv's being pulled out but almost in all cases this has been caused by a hard impact on the diff mount bending it and over stressing the cv shaft.
My neighbour ran his hilux with a 4-5" lift for 45,000km only on the street with no problems....it was a showtruck.
Common sense prevails in the end of the day. You can't thrash these like a solid axled rock buggy becaue thats not what they are designed to do. Driven with common sense they will get you many many places you want to take it.
