Hi guys
Has anyone tried to swap out the electronic injectors with mechanical injectors on the 3.0 liter D-4D (1KD-FTV) yet? I read on this forum about 1HD-T injectors, but found out later that this was a typo and was told to try the mechanical injectors from a Mitsubishi Pajero 3.2 liter with the 4M41 diesel engine. So, I ordered some used ones and will see if they have the same dimensions and fit. The part number is ME203961. Was just wondering if anyone else have played with these and built a 1KD head with mechanical injectors? Thanks Gary

the D4D is common rail.
mechanical injectors need indvidual lines and less line pressure.
can i ask why you would do this. apart from being illegal due to emissions u'll most likely loose alot of power.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I was wondering if I should provide more information or not. I already have the mechanical pump and individual lines and much larger turbo, etc, etc, etc, so I will actually gain A LOT of power (This has been done before) I am getting rid of the ECU, the common rail and all the electronics. And it is not illegal in Canada. This engine is not available in North America, so, I am just asking as to whether someone else on this forum has done this and what my options are for injectors, so I don't get tied up in more modification of the head/ injectors than I have to. Looking at pictures of the Pajero injectors and comparing them with my 1KD ones, they look quite similar so may indeed be all I need Thankspopeyehj60 wrote:it wont work.

Out of curiosity what is the engine code for the mech injected version of this engine, or what engine does the injector pump come off and how do you plan on fitting it?
99% sure a mech injected version of the 1kd was never available in australia. And I've never heard of anyone doing the conversion though i seem to remember talk of full mech injection conversions for the 1kz and 5l-te engines.
I suppose this is a cheaper/simpler way of extracting real power from these engines (given the cost of pietzo injectors) but how do you think the bottom end will hold up? Do you have any information on similar examples?

Yes, you're right a mech version of the 1KD has never been available anywhere in the world. The injector pump I'm using is the mechanical one from a 1KZ-T, but you can also use the pump from a Pajero 4M40 (with some modification) or from a 5L. It fits. the 5LE and KZ-TE mech conversions are much more common. I'm not concerned that the bottom or top end will hold up just fine. Here is a post of a similar conversion, with the exception that the mentioning of the 1HD-T injetcors was a typo:

These 2 are coomon in Hilux Vigo in Thailand. However there is a sport version of Hilux Vigo in Thailand came out to local market adding front/side and rear skirt. Larger Bonnet vent, fog light, roof spoiler, aluminium door steps, 17" alloys and sport speedo. The most interesting part in sport version is the engine, lets take a look. A Toyota genuine developt car use same 1KD-FTV with bigger turbo. A Vichai Karn Chang (VKC motor Thailand) has fusion Landcruiser engine and Hilux Vigo engine together making even more impressive power.

Impressive performance frm after market fusion of owned make VKC motor of the 1-KD-FTE has taken mooders attention to turn from 1JZ and 2JZ GTE to 1KD-FTE. Down the drag way, 35% of car entered is running a 1KD-FTE in 13sec, 14sec, 15sec and 16sec bracket.

I just thought I'd bring this up again. I got the mechanical Pajero injectors, but they are too short. The in and outlets won't clear above the camshafts. I also looked at perhaps running the fuel lines below the camshaft, but there is not enough room for the fitting. I even considered lengthening them by cutting them in half and extending them with round tubing, but I don't think that will work because there is probably nothing on which the shims and springs inside could seat.
I even wrote to both Denso and Bosch and asked them if they perhaps have an equivalent mechanical injector for the electronic 1KD injector, but I have not heard back from either. I just find it hard to believe that out of all the thousands of injectors out there, that there won't be one that is somewhat similar in size and shape.
I noticed that the Pajero nozzle is the exact same size as the 1KD nozzle, so yesterday, I took everything out of the 1KD injector and swapped the Pajero nozzle and a couple other small items into the 1KD injector and took it to an injector shop. They hooked it up to the machine, but unfortunately all the diesel poured out of the overflow. I have the diagram for this injector, but it doesn't show or explain how the overflow works, so I'm not sure how to block that off when needed.
I think that the only thing that stands between me getting this engine to run right now and failure, is to figure out a way to get diesel into it at 2200 psi. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
