how much will a 7in spring lift throw my caster out? what size caster plates will i need?

generally one degree of castor for every inch.
with castor plates your pin (chassis) end of your front radius arms will be pushed down as far as they wil go, you will literally need to jack the front diff down to get the springs in place leaving little to no articulation in your front end.
You are better off with dropped arms or my personal choice, drop boxes.
dare i say it, why so high? I had 6in lifts in two nissans for around 4 years... never again after dropping to a 3in and keeping my 35's. everything has improved. I can't say I miss the big lift at all.

same as above, roughly 1 degree for every inch but i also have to ask as well why so high?? i ran 35's on 4" lift and it felt way to big, dropped it to 2" and its much more stable, doesnt want to roll around everywhere and i can still drive round town without cops hassling me

At that height i'd go drop boxes and dropped arms. say 3 inch boxes, 4 inch arms. It's going to handle terrible on road or fast off road no matter what you do. You would seriously need to address the flex in the front suspension too. either xlink, 3link or the superior flex arms.
Could work ok for a trailer queen that doesn't get out of low range.

i have 6in spring lift wth 35s it takes a bit to get used to but i still can take corners as before and have never been hasled by cops

I love the big height look. Mates got 7 1/2" in his Gu ute. Drop boxs and super flex with superior long arm. With fully adjustable boss shocks it rides nice. Has 35s. With shocks set on soft he is lifting wheels Around corners and with them set in hard it rides so nice. Saying that my boss has his Gu lifted 2" springs and marks assorted portal axle diffs under his ute with 35s they handle completely different. Love the big lift and flex is craZY

I remember when I was that naive.
In the end its your car, your responsiblity and your insurance policy. Do what you like. There is plenty of people who have been there and done the excessive lifts that will back my statements.
These days with the springs and shocks availiable to you, how high you go has sweet F.A. to do with how much flex you get.

i'll second this coz iv just been there and done it myslef, had my lit in for 2 weeks before DOT came knocking, knew then that it was only going to be troubles so droped it to 2" springs, 5" shocks, adjusted bumpstops to suit so shocks didnt bottom out and it still flexes the same as it did before.gu town wrote:In the end its your car, your responsiblity and your insurance policy. Yeh I agree with not being to tall. I used to run 6 inch coils and drop boxes with 40's in my gq.
But have seen the light and stepped down to a 4 inch coil still using boxes and now run 38 inch tyres.
It is a comp truck but just that little difference in stance allows me to try bigger stuff as it doesn't feel like back flipping straight away.
I have reasonable flex that my coils take every inch out of my drop out cones and performs heaps better that most big lifted rigs

Had a 7inch in a GU wagon for a little while It was horrible! Its now 4 inch and far better!
My ute on 37s has a 5 inch and thats very stable but does have a long arm kit and fairly firm springs but works very nicely offroad
