Water Pump Life on a HJ61 (or FJ60)

Post by PeterInSa »

Have done around 350,000Km in our HJ61 with the 12HT motor (Turbo Diesel) have replaced the water pump once since owning the vehicle at around 100,000Km prior to the last trip out bush my mechanic checked the water pump ( think he just checked the pully for tightness) and said it was OK.

How long do these water pumps last, I think the current one has done at least 100,000Km and could be 150,000Km, I carry a spare along with gaskets etc, but would prefer to change over at home rather than in the bush just in case something goes wrong, eg broken bolt etc

I realise this question could be similar to .. How long is a piece of string, but on average what is the life expectancy?

on a car with a timing belt it is good practice to do the water pump every time you do the timing belt.

so i would be doing it ever 100 or 150 thousand on the 2H/12HT aswell.
