Turboing a 2.4 2l

Post by kane86 »

Just after some help and advice about turboing my 2l its a 85 model with 234000 on the clock everything is running fine would I be safe to run a low-medium boost set up on this motor also a few questions if anyone is a able to help me
1) is there any other turbo's other then the ct20 that would suit this application and are also water-cooled
2) if using a water-cooled turbo does that mean I can eliminate the need to tap the sump and run oil lines to the turbo
3) is there anything else other then fitting the boost compensator from a 2lt or 2lt-e and running water lines that will need to be done (I will be getting a manifold made to suit by my local exhaust shop and will be fabbing and welding up intercooler pipes, turbo back exhaust and any intake pipes needed myself)
4) what would be a safe average boost to run and also a safe maximum boost to run with this set up
Cheers
Kane

My 3L turboed motor (the one in the link) runs 10 - 11psi (stock 2L-T boost) and the only problem I have seen in the 8 months since I turboed is the rear main seal began to weap. I assume this is because of the extra blow by caused by the higher pressure in the engine. By no means is it a big problem though.

You still need to run the oil to the water cooled turbo - it lubricates the journal bearing the turbo shaft rotaes in.

I have a boost compensator that I have not fitted yet. The boot compensator will only allow you to run less fuel off boost it's not an essential component.

If you havent yet, get a compression test done on your engine, it will give a good idea on what condition your engine is in.
