Mounting poly bushings...

Post by totto »

I might sound like a dork, but i'm completely new to puly bushings...
I have bought a kit with bushings and shackles for my patrol MK, but the kit contained no clue to how to mount them and what to lube them with...
I know of course where they are going, but how do i get them into place? I tried making a makeshift pulling tool to pull a bushing into the sleeve lubing it with vd40, but it just mushroomed on me..... :?
Hints and tips welcome...

Lubing them up with a general grease should be ok. I know some greases attack the poly but not sure what types.

If they are super tight, make sure they are right for your car. A guy at work has had problems with ford f-100 aftermarket poly bushes, we had to machine them to fit!

Otherwise a long bolt with large washers should press them in nice.

I have used suzuki aftermarket ones also, they went in easy with a 'tap' from a hammer.

Thanks. They are just slightly larger than the holes they're going into, maybe a mm or two.. guess thats how it should be. Also, after posting, i nioticed some rust within the sleeves, so i guess a little cleanup wouldn't hurt either :D
I'll give it a new try in the weekend...
